It says "Moderator" on it.

I'll be helping Etoile out with moderating the GLBT Chatter forum. I think she has done a terrific job, but as we grow, a second pair of hands might come in handy.

Many of you will remember that I had some initial reservations about the creation of this forum, but I have been very happy with how it has developed, and I am looking forward to helping all I can to help it grow and prosper.

I suppose this means I'd better keep my PM box clear!

I didn't want one moderator but it's not like I had a choice. Now we've doubled the number of moderators, why? Certainly not because of the tremendous growth spurt we've experienced. We don’t even have a full first page yet we need twice the number of mods as the BDSM forum or the How To forum.

No, it’s really about politics. Eight days after PoliteSuccubus complains about there not being a gay, male mod one appears.

What does Etolie say in that thread:
If the general populace here wants an additional moderator, that's fine with me. If they want it to be a gay man, that's fine too. I don't personally feel that I need the help, but I'm not opposed to the idea.

All fine and good, but is that what the ‘general populous’ wants? I don’t recall anyone voting on the subject. No, once again, someone has taken it upon themselves to decide what’s ‘better’ for the GLBT community of Lit.

Here’s the reality: If gay men wanted to swarm Literotica in mass they’d be doing so. People who want to be part of this ‘community’ will do so. I’m sorry but I’m tired of this bullshit about there being something ‘wrong’ with group of people who post here because they’re aren’t enough of them and they’re not male.

I protested against this forum at first but I joined in because I actually wanted it to become a ‘gay community’. It’s not about the people who post here or the ‘community’ though - it’s about making certain people feel good about their demographics.

While I respect your opinion, I have to take exception to your assignment of motive to me. If you would like to discuss the whys and wherefores of my becoming a moderator, I will be more than happy to oblige. But I would ask that you not begin such a discussion by making unfounded charges about me or my motivation.

I have no idea what your motivations are, nor have I pretended to.

If I was mistaken in thinking that your references to an unnamed person or persons who have " taken it upon themselves to decide what’s ‘better’ for the GLBT community of Lit.", propagate "bullshit about there being something ‘wrong’ with group of people who post here because they’re aren’t enough of them and they’re not male." and of whom you said "it’s about making certain people feel good about their demographics.", were directed towards me, I apologize, but I am at a loss at to whom else you might have been referring.

Congrats Q,

The new hat looks good on you.

Did I hear that you and Etolie would be staring in the upcoming Mods of Literotica Calendar?

I'm thinking that GLBT's mods should get June and July because we all know that you're both hot as hell :)

No need to apologize, reading it over I can see how you might have drawn that conclusion.

So – the whys and wherefores?

Congrats Q! (I have this visual of you wearing this huge rainbow coloured hat ala Dr Seuss's Cat in the Hat now)

:D

Thank you. I understand that the issue of moderation can be a touchy one, and I want to say again that I greatly respect you opinion on this issue, as I respect it in general.

I have received a steady stream of PMs from people who felt that we ought to have two moderators, for various reasons, some convincing to me, others less so, and urging me to offer my services.

Some people did feel that we ought to have both a male and a female mod in order to represent the diversity of the community. Others were concerned that as the forum grew, Etoile would not have the time to monitor the board sufficiently, or that the nature of the board, as a gay space in the midst of a much larger posting environment, required more diligence than is needed on other boards.

I discussed the issue with Etoile, and I told her that I would not volunteer without her willing approval. She informed me that she was pleased by my offer to help. I then contacted Laurel and volunteered, and she accepted my offer.

I don't have any agenda except to maintain this forum as a useful resource and a welcoming place for anyone who wants to join in, be they gay, lesbian, bi, trans or straight.

Thanks, Oh.

Let's make sure she gets the longer month, she's much easier on the eyes.

Thank you kindly Mister Oh.
I'd like to thank you ever so.
I will not thank you with a show.
I will not thank you with some dough.
I think I'll thank you with a blow.

Queersetti, I have nothing against either you or Etolie. However, I see this as a serious issue and I doubt I will be agreeing with you at all so if I seem frustrated or ‘angry’ please do not interpret that as being aimed at you.

” Some people did feel that we ought to have both a male and a female mod in order to represent the diversity of the community.”

Does that BDSM forum have a Dom, sub, and Switch for moderators? No. Does the Story Discussion forum have a mod for each genre? No. It’s not the job of the mods to represent the diversity of the community. If the community is diverse, then that will be obvious enough when scrolling through a thread. If it’s not, then pretending otherwise won’t help.

”Others were concerned that as the forum grew, Etoile would not have the time to monitor the board sufficiently”

Etolie already stated that she didn’t need help currently. As for the growth, we have almost none. We can’t even keep the first page full. We’re one of the smallest forums with a moderator. There are forums that get about six times the amount of traffic we do that only have one mod.

”the nature of the board, as a gay space in the midst of a much larger posting environment, required more diligence than is needed on other boards.”

Other boards? Again, I point to the BDSM one that is above our heads. It’s much larger, just as ‘controversial’ (if not more so) and needs only ONE moderator.

I, for one, am tired. I’m tired of the backroom dealings, I’m tired of the politics, I’m tired of moderators, and I’m tired of the gay community being treated like children who should immediately understand that others know what’s best for them.

Queersetti, if you weren’t male then you wouldn’t have gotten this position. I don’t believe that your presence as the board mod is going to induce the ‘desirable elements’ to come and stay at the Lit boards more often but, whatever.

If people would just let the board be then it would be better for the community in the long run.

I understand your objections and I don't take them personally.

For what it's worth, I can assure you that I will do my best to be sensitive to your concerns, and that I have no intention of trying to remake this board into anything other than what the posters make of it.

I'd like to see more traffic here, simply because it would be more interesting and more fun. But I have no agenda in regard to trying to make the board more gay, or more male.

For the record, Never, I also think you would make an excellent moderator. I don't think you'd be interested in the position, but if you had expressed an interest I'd have encouraged you to apply to Laurel. I do want to thank you for expressing your opinions on the entire board, from its creation to its moderation!

Queersetti, welcome to the moderating crew. I'm glad you made it on board.

As for the calendar, oh21, you're far too kind! Thank you. http://www.amanita.net/images/smilies/kissyface.gif

Has anyone told que all moderators are required to post a picture series?
