I just got the internet connection hooked up to it a few minutes ago. Not very difficult at all. This Win XP is really cool too. :) The only things I don't like are the fact that I don't have a mouse for it yet. :( Touchpad is okay, but a mouse would be better. And the keyboard is hard to type on. The keys are too flat, and the typing position is awkward. I make way too many typos, and the back space key and I are on intimate terms. LOL That's not in a good position either. But the puter is fast and looks good.

Cheyenne, do it. It's not painful a bit. :D

ooh. i'd like to try out your lap, too. i'll help you find a good position.

Huh. I'm the poster child for procrastination.

Kotori, hush. Don't make me get the shears. LOL

I could use a little trim. Not sweater length, maybe a pair of socks though.

But if you had spent more time doing the proper research you wouldn't have bought something that isn't exactly what you wanted. :p

I've been thinking about a laptop too. Does anyone have thoughts on what a good set of specs would be, for screen size, processor speed, RAM, harddrive size, etc.

April, what did you get, and other than the ergonomic issues, are you happy with it?

I would at least go for a Pentium 4/AMD at around 1.4 gHz with min of 128 MB RAM, 20-30 GB hard drive, good speed CD/DVD-ROM, Win98SE.
The best I have seen is a Pentium 4 2 GHZ, 256 MB RAM, 30 GB hard drive, Windows XP Home, 1 inch screen foraround $4,000 AUS.

Aside from M$ owning everything on the machine, sure.
Igot Windows XP Pro on my Desktop, and it works sweet!

I would love to get the latest Linuxon here as well.

Ditto on the touch pad, I got a optical mouse with mine. I bought it to stay in touch when I travel, which is a lot of the time!

Cheyenne, bite me. :p :D
Starfish, suck me. ;) :D

Overall, I'm very happy with it. I never thought about the key placement. I'll get used to it. I think if I cut my fingernails, it would help. LOL

I saved for several months to be able to buy this. Damn near cleaned out my bank account too.

I bought a Toshiba 5105-s501. Fantastic machine.
Pentium 4-M at 1.7 Ghz
512 Mb RAM, expandable to 1 Gb
40 Gb Hard drive
DVD/CD-RW drive (combo)
15" screen
Nvidia GeForce 440 Go w/ 32 Mb RAM :D (gamer)
Smart Media and SD card readers built in
Harmon Kardon speakers w/subwoofer (not as impressive as it seems)

I think that's about it. I've got optical mice on the way. One for the laptop, one for the desktop. When I or hubby go on trips, this goes with. (laptop) My mom's gonna freak when she sees it when I visit her. :)

Any questions, just ask.

You might want to get the XP patches.. you know... so it doesn't arbitrarily throttle bandwith and so that about 1/5th of your gaping security holes are kinda-sorta closed.
