I'm thinking of pulling them all.

I have about six.

Mostly because I can rework three of them and sell them. I already pulled Pyotr because it sold.

The other reason is that I am painfully bored with Literotica. There is not much holding me here anymore. Most of my friends have moved on to other venues or got so disgusted with the corrosive atmosphere on this board that they quit posting anywhere.

This board used to be a great sounding board for new writing. Now, its become a board that rises to its own level of mediocrity. Without sounding like an arrogant son of a bitch, (and admittedly I am) it's not a challenge to me anymore.

There are other reasons but those are the main ones.

How was this board "a challenge" in the first place? I thought this was just a friendlier place than the GB.

That's the way I saw it, too- smarter people, sure- mostly.
And a little more respect, and far less flaming.

Unless you were or are an alt, you weren't around five years ago when I started writing for this site.

I use the words site and board as the same because there were very few subdivisions of Lit at that time. Things like the Playground, the BSDM Cafe, and the GLBT board did not exist then. As an Oldtimer, I tend to keep to that terminology.

In the time that I have been here, I have watched the quality of writing decline. Every once in a while, a really good piece would do well, but that has become few and far between. What has become more and more prevalent is that the quantity still continues to be high, but the work isn't all that readable. If all you aspire to be is a mediocre writer on a porn board, then great. This is the site for you. It doesn't take a lot for one of the better writers to "dumb it down". That is to say, you know what will work on this site. You know just how sophomoric to make your entry so that it will get read and voted on. You even know what themes will do well and what catagories. You can predict winners of contests, not based on the merits of the work itself, but by its theme, catagory, and word usage.

This is no longer a challenge.

It is also no longer a challenge when its necessary for the owners of the site to make the voting rules complicated, and for them to have to sweep for trolls who deliberately vote the better pieces down so that their own piece of dull lifeless pandering crap will do better. It's even more sad when the trolls start trolling each other in some sort of trollish feeding frenzy.

Literotica will always do well as long as there are people willing to write something for this board. Doesn't really matter what it is, or whether its good, because the draw is too heavy.

But lest we all forget, it really just is a porn board. It's bound by its own definition to never really be better than the stroke material it imitates. There are those of us who occasionally make the mistake of thinking that it should be better than it is.

I am one of those people I guess. The masses don't particually care if a story is good or not. Chances are, they won't even vote. So, the voters of the board are the denizens of the AH, the GB, and all the other boards...and, if a particular author has a following somewhere.

Is it worth while? I suppose for some who are just starting out this is a great place, but for those of us who have been here a while...no

It's just not a challenge any more.

Well, I would have to agree with you there!
I HATE the way the voting goes. I hate that my stories get ten votes in more than six thousand hits, and one downvote plunges a very hot story right out of the hot category. I don't write for contests, and I don't want to know where the hundred-vote wonders are getting their readership from. As a reader, it's so difficult to weed through the crap. More than half of what I've read here, I would never allow to be posted, based on grammer alone. I like the people I've met here, and there are some that I'd even say I love- but I've gone looking for other places to post, too. I work ferociously on my stories, and I think they desreve a good audience. If a publisher requested that I remove them from this site, I would, like a shot.

What I do like about lit's publishing section is that there are no popups, no big pics, unless of course that's the section I'm in... It's discrete that way. that's a good thing.

Stella...I am going to respectfully disagree with you about this board. The AH takes itself far more seriously than the GB in some respects. The AH forgets occasionally that it writes porn.

not the Goncourt novel. Just porn. But, since it collectively thinks that on occasion, it has no compunction about trolling its other members.

The trolling doesn't come from the GB. Yes, they are all psychopaths down there. I would agree that is some seriously scary shit that goes down there. This board is more genteel in its viciousness.

Well, given that so many of us are opinionated bastards, and that we all come here with our own set of issues, and that we are more or less libidinally overendowed-
there's still less flaming here, although there are spats, tiffs and antipathies galore.
Porn ain't no hallmark card, that's for sure

By contrast, since I was a long time denizen of the GB...the GB is much more concerned with off board gossip. I had a relationship with a woman (gasp! I know!) that is still a topic of conversation 5 years later. In fact, there are trolls down there that remind me of my stupidity every time I post down there to this day. The AH is the GB lite if you ask me. There is still the same attitudes and strangeness, but the AH covers itself well under a nice polite veneer. The GB doesn't bother being polite. They go for the jugular every time.

I came here because I got tired.

"No one would ever do something like that. That's just too....too....disgusting."

I heard that female homosexuality was legal during Victorian times because Queen Victoria did not believe that two women "would do that" so there was no law against it. Male homosexuality on the other hand was illegal. Might be an urban legend though...

No, it's true :)

The Russians however referred to it as "gentlemanly games" and had no problem with it, apparently.

I'm confused - is this a "look at me" thread, or a "let's liven up the AH with some bitching" thread, or "convince me to stay" thread, or a "goodbye" thread, or a "the good ol days" thread ? :D

[I'm sure my reply is less than mediocre ;) but my porns not that bad]

The English had little problem with it either- depending on when you were there...
The last stanza of a song by John Wilmot; written around 1720;
Then give me health, wealth, mirth, and wind,
And if busy Love intrenches,
There's a sweet, soft page of mine
Does the trick worth forty wenches.

*sigh!* My hero....

It's a

None of the above.

I'm making a statement of fact and how I feel, today. I'm not asking for anyone to beg me to stay, I am not asking for you or anyone else to tell me to go away. I'm not even particularly interested in what you have to say in response, although, in the spirit of the AH I am responding with a less than useful and further confusing reply.

:D
