Hello all

I’m writing an erotic short story about a couple in the Middle Ages who are hiding away from a powerful nobleman. The main plot of the story is that the guy possesses a secret that could shift the balance of power within the kingdom. So far I’ve managed to write the story revolving around this secret, but I realise that I don’t have a decent secret to reveal …
I toyed with the ideas that the king is an impostor, or that a minister is selling military secrets to the enemy … but I’m not too sure of what might captivate the reader’s attention  . Do any of you have any idea of what could be scandalous enough to bring down an entire kingdom in the Middle Ages?

The king is not the previous king's biological kin, but was the result of his mother's affair with... maybe an trusted companion or something.

The secret could be the formula for gunpowder (charcoal, saltpeter, and sulphur) that he was given by a dying old sorcerer. Sold into the hands of the enemies of the king, it would change the course of history......Carney

gunpower :nana: now that's a secret worth killing for!

Is there magic? Maybe there was a prophecy that the king could only be killed by some particular thing, and the king tried to hush up the prophecy to defend his weakness, and the man is the only surviving one who know the weakness.

That wouldn't bring the kindom down. It happened all the time, and how would anyone prove it in the Middle Ages? No DNA, not even blood tests.

there could be a birthmark or secret love letters proving the infidelity. I had thought of that idea, but i didnt think it strong enough reason to bring down a kingdom.

Thats a pretty good idea and I do have a witch in the story too ... ;)

one scandal that might completely screw things up: someone is lending money at usurious rates while skimming from the coffers. maybe a trusted chamberlain or something?

The king is a "queen"? Physically or sexually, no one was confortable with Joan of Arc Well it could happen!

Now that is a good idea - it would certainly cause real problems.

On Lit it wouldn't be stoning. In a typical Lit story it would be death-by-fucking.

I think that the king was a bastard wouldn't work all that well. After all, he's already in power. It would take civil war to oust him, and some might not have the courage. After all, bastard or not, the king controlls the army.

However, if you could prove that the king's son was a bastard, and thus not eligible to take the crown on the king's death, the king's evil younger brother would inherit the crown.

They had gunpowder in the middle ages, they just didn't know what to do with it. oggbashan might be able to give you better historical details.

I think that the king being a queen works well for Lit. That idea I like. :p

Please, no comments regarding my ego for quoting myself! I just had another thought is all...

This would require that the king's son was a bastard! It's like two ideas in one.

Maybe the guy knows what happens in the last Harry Potter book? :D

Alternately, he may know the location of some secret long-lost magical relic/superweapon/whatever, and the King wants it so he can conquer the world.

The logical problem here, of course, is that there are any number of other people who share the guy's dislike of the King who may not necessarily have much nobler intentions for having the relic for themselves than the King would.

Don't forget to use the chance to include some sort of female spy of the King (or some other important character) who uses her "femenine wiles" as they say to get information from various people. She could be a witch and thus augment her own natural skills with potions and magic. :nana:

lol i'd like to know what happens too hehe :D
Maybe I could use something the Lost Ark or the Spear of Destiny. They're both objects deemed with incredible powers. I could make the guy a sort of holy man who knoows how to unleash its magnificent powers. But that means that I'd have to rewrite the whole thing ... ho-hum back to the salt mines
