You've got me. I can understand the need for a vehicle to haul kids and crap -- the two go hand in hand -- but a reasonably sized wagon or minivan is much more practical than a truck equipped for the great outdoors that one needs a ladder to climb into.
There's a park nearby used by the local AYSO, and it is a hoot to look at the vehicles taking up space on a Saturday morning. Range Rovers, Lincoln, Mercedes, Lexus and Cadillac SUVS, Volvo wagons (terribly passe) and other high end kid carriers.
The scariest thing in the world is to be near one of those behemoths driven by a frantic woman on the phone, trying to discipline three or four fighting kids at the same time. There was a crash at the local McDonald's the other day that blocked the drive-through line for some time, with just that problem.
