No, not my rocker or what little mind I have left. I'm off to buy a new car today. Any suggestions?

Something that runs is always good :D

Depends on what you want. The one I've researched and hope to get next year is the new Mazda 3. I want the 5 door model. I've had a Mazda Protege for 6 years now and I love it. I've managed to cram more crap into it, it has driven me all over the place without a single breakdown, it's comfortable. and it didn't cost me my life savings.

Jaguar XKL... They look really nice :)

Okay, maybe I should rephrase that a little...anything within my price range..which is between seven and ten thousand.

Specifics! It's all about the specifics!

Even used Hondas are pricey, although very dependable.

I drove a Grand Prix until it decided to start on fire on me, with me in it. Now I'm looking for something small and fun, and sexy, definitely has to be sexy. The only specifics I have, it can't be red and it can't be a stick shift, doctor's orders. I love driving manual transmission but my heart can't handle the stress.

"Baby you can drive my caaaaaaar..." - Beatles

I have a 5 year old Honda. Like it. :)

The car I had before this one was a Cavalier I bought used. It had been a lease car. The price was great and the mileage low, and I had the thing until it just started costing money to keep running -- about 7 years.

Toyotas are pretty cheap and pretty reliable. Not the sexiest thing on wheels but.....

Ford Focus? Those are pretty reliable too. Dont break down to much and not as expensive to fix as most imports.

Stay away from VW... I love em but they always seem to break down.

Hondas are good... reliable... but expensive to fix.

Hows that?
:nana:

Sorry Selena, I'm with your husband. If it weren't for gas prices, that little red mustang would be sitting in my driveway. I've always been a sucker for a 'Stang.

At that price range, you're talking used cars. Do your homework. Go to theKelly Bluebook site and see what the bluebook value of the vehicle is before you commit to anything. Also, http://www.epinions.com will let you look it up and see what other people have to say about it.

You don't have to buy the car the same day you look at it, despite what the salesmen will tell you.

Oh, and there was always someone in just earlier today looking at the same car... so of course you'd need to buy it today if you want to be safe. It's good to go car shopping early in the day - that way if you do find one that you really really like, you can stop home, do some homework on it, and then return the same day to buy the thing.

yeah most people are...
he starts making the "Tim Taylor Tool Time" noise every time he sees one... LOL

Me, I just like the cuteness factor of the bug :cathappy:

I would also suggest the Nissan line of cars or Honda, they appear to have the realiablity thing down pat.

Honestly, if I could afford anything right now, I'd buy an electric car or a hybrid.

Go with a Subaru. All-Wheel-Drive just makes all the difference in the winter. Saved my life at least once.

My first reaction to "I'm buying a new car" was "don't," but when I saw $7-10k I realized you weren't being literal.

That Kelly Blue Book site - navigate to used car listings, enter your zip, select advanced search, and go shopping. You can pick and choose among many fields to specify. It's fun, and you can get a ton of extremely useful info. Here: http://cars.kbb.com/go/search/advanced_search.jsp

I bought a car two years ago that way. I knew I wanted a Taurus wagon, because a wagon is very handy, and used Tauri are very cheap, due to the fact that they are such a popular fleet and rental car. You can buy a 2-3 year old Taurus with <30k miles for around $8-9k. I got a wagon for $10k. I entered "cars for sale within 250 miles." The used Taurus of that age is such a "commodity" that I could buy sight-unseen. It happened to be at a dealer, which simplifies that sight-unseen part. It was about 10 miles from an Amtrak station, and I have access to Amtrak, so I made the deal over the phone and had the guy pick me up at the station! It was fun - I and friend made an overnight trip out of it.

That would be a great model for you to follow to a 'T' except you want "sexy." (Taurus wagon is sexy 'cause you can fold down the seats and fuck? True, but that's probably not what you have in mind.)

Hyundai has a good rep for comfy sedans that are not totally unsexy and are an excellent value. See reviews also on that KBB site at http://www.kbb.com/kb/ki.dll/ke.kb.sp?kbb&&&usedCars;slp.

Obviously, this is a great resource. You can research and shop on the same site, and really be confident that you are making an extremely prudent purchase, because there are so many cars listed for sale there. The heck with looking at the 5 or 6 cars that a particular dealer has that generally fit you needs - you can pick from hundreds of offerings that precisely fit your need.

Edited to add:
As an example, not sure if the link will work but here are 87 Hyundais for sale in the US, all models, 2004 and newer, 30,000 miles or less, $10k or less:
http://cars.kbb.com/go/search/fs_se...1500&numResultsPerPage=50&certifiedOnly=false

I narrowed it to within 250 miles of Chicago and found 11, and 16 within 150 miles of Philadelphia.

OMG!!! LOL

Um..... yea I build those pretty red cars in Canada. LOL!!

Called a Steeda Mustang.

I'd love to help you, but the price differences between where you are and here are ludicrus. :(

Oh yeah and did I get a deal. A fully loaded 2003 Pontiac Sunfire, I do mean fully loaded, it even has Satalite Stereo. And I'm getting it for a thousand under blue book. I pick it up on Monday.

About five years ago I owned a Sunfire that I leased, I got in it the first time and it had exactly 7 miles on it. I was so in love with that car, had a blast driving it. I can't wait to pick this one up.

I also heard a term through a salesman I'd never heard before. The car had its brains blown out...meaning it had a moonroof. Threw me for a minute.

Cool, sounds like fun! Hope it's a good car for you. :)
