I'm in Hell! (Open)

"Yes we certainly do any way now that we have electricity the stove and refrigerator work, they just need to be cleaned then we can go out and get some food and some silverware.

Their is a wise storage survival food store in town and it's made so that i will last 25 years. and theirs a bass pro shops they should have everything else that we will need."

"But first we need to clean the oven the refrigerator and the bathroom i have a big package of wet wipes in my bag they will do the job."

Seeing as I was the junior rank, she passed me the wipes and silently implied that it was my duty to clean the place. Grrr. This was why I hated being in the service as a low rank, always had to do the dirty work for someone else. The place stunk, there were cobwebs and some dead bugs that had to be scraped out of it and dumped into a bin I found. Now I wish I was back to stacking boxes. It took nearly two hours to clean off everything and used only a couple of the wipes, now that we had hot water it made things easier.

"Alright. I think I'm done" I said to her with a half smile tossing the last wipe I used into the bin. "What do we do now?"

After i finish the last little bit of refrigerator cleaning. I look around at your cleaning work and i say "you did a nice job now lets go get some food and the other stuff that we need." Then i grab my M4 and we begin our journey into town. Making sure not to make any excessive noise.

The empty, plywood covered buildings with lawns overgrown and dark trees in the distance made the area look worse than it really was. I had this nagging suspicion that there was something following us since we left our shelter, a silent prowler was there stalking us. I would scan our environment with the muzzle of the weapon aimed at where I was looking, but all that would present it self was silence and darkness.

"You ever get the feeling that we're being followed?" whispering to her as we went.

"Yes i do then i hear a sound behind us lurking in the tall grass I throw you to the grown then i lay down in a prone position push the safety lever on my M4 from Semi-automatic to 3 round burst then i unload a magazine in the tall grass where i thought the threat was hiding.

After changing the magazine i look at you and say "lets get the hell over to the food wise store get what we need then get the hell back to our shelter."

The shots were still ringing in my ear as we ran. Couldn't tell if we hit anything, but all through our run I kept looking over my shoulder at the darkness and could feel a set of eyes just following us. Reaching the mart, there were still some canned stuff left on pallets along some strange drums.

They were leftovers from the Cold War, they were survival kits. Next to the drums were boxes of 'crackers'. Apparently the owners were stocking up for the Nuclear Winter that never came. If they were still sealed then they must still be good. The food we were given were designed to have long shelf lives, but the trick would be getting them back to the shelter as the drums were heavy and about four feet tall.

"Well i don't think it would be a good idea for us to go through the front door we should go through the roof. I can use my Ka-bar to cut a hole through the ceiling and then fast rope down and get what we need."

"When i find something we can use i will tie it to the end of the rope and pull on it as hard as i can at which point you will have to pull it up since your physically stronger than i am."

We get next to the stores building i help you get onto the roof and then you pull me up. While i use my Ka-bar to cut open the roof you keep watch for any possible trouble.

When i get a big enough whole cut through i tie one end of the long paracord rope to the rooftop air conditioning unit then i fast rope down into the store. Once i'm off the rope i turn on my flash light and i begin to look through the dark building.

Being on the roof alone didn't help me. I kept myself low against the roof to break up my figure as she went down that small light stabbing into the darkness. She had a lot of spunk, perhaps more than I did, despite her compliment of me being physically stronger than her. Still though I kept my eyes carefully scanning the area and listened intently for anything. A rolling breeze came through blowing a sweet smell of pine in my nose. That sudden sweet smell reminded me of home, but the cold shiver that followed reminded me that I wasn't at home, I was in the worst place imaginable and there was something stalking us. Tucking the rifle against my body, the safety was off. Muttering under my breath, I begged her to hurry up so we can get back to the shelter, some place safe at least and not be in the open.

Using her Maglite flashlight Dana scanned the Wise food storage surivival food store.

And looked at the various containers of survival food that was available, then the young woman grabbed as many containers as she could and she tied the first to the end of the rope and tugged on it.

Once the first container was pulled up the next one was tied on then pulled up once all the containers were on the roof she remarked quietly to herself .

"Well now that are food needs are taken care of our next stop is bass pro shops then to wal-mart to get everything else that we are going to need."

when Dana was done talking to herself she climbed back the rope and onto the roof.

"Next stop bass pro shops then onto Walmart to get everything else that we need to keep ourselves alive."

With all of the containers that I had to haul up, her next response was to continue on to another store. There were too many containers for me to handle and said that we would have to get a tow cart, or some other means of manually moving all of this material. Fortunately for us there was such a hand cart sitting in the back of the store. The tires were still good and it could move the canisters along with a lot of extra stuff. Fortunate for me, though, I was the one that had to move with it where her taking the lead to the next store. My rifle was slung on my back so I could grasp the T handle with both hands and push, but the ground was level, so it wasn't that hard to do as we moved down the main drag of the once busy village towards the derelict remains of Wal-Mart.

When we reach Walmart we climb up onto the roof i use my Ka-bar to cut open a hole in the roof then i tie the rope to the air condition unit on the roof and i fast rope down into the store. My first stop is the cleaning supply department so i can pick out a few cleaning supplies once their taken care of.

I grab a big box of Glad force flex trash bags open the box and put the cleaning supplies into one of the bags. I put the rest in my pocket. Then i go through the store grab everything that we need and put the items into one of the bags. Once i have everything we are going to need from Wal-mart.
I tie one of the bags to the rope and tug on it, and you pull it up. Once the first bag is on the roof i tie the others one at a time to the rope and you pull them up. Once the last one is pulled up. I pull myself up onto the roof.

And we head to bass pro shops. "Here let me push the hand cart for awhile while you take point its unfair of me to force you to pull and push this thing."

Rather nice change of pace. With her taking the cart I walked forward with the rifle to my shoulder and carefully scanned our surroundings. Bass-Pro was in a worse shape that Wal-Mart. There was no need to go through the roof on this one, the front doors were wide open, but there was also no light. We left the cart inside the front entrance and went through the aisles together, but the racks were bare. Looks like when the store went under they took a lot of stuff with them, but it wasn't a dry well. On the floor we found packaging for fishing hooks and line.

What we did find was placed in the cart and we headed back to our shelter. With her still pulling the cart, I could see everything in front of us, though I missed staring at her ass. I still couldn't shake that we were being followed and kept looking behind to see only nothing.

When we get back to our shelter I change all the light bulbs in the light fixtures then i attach the brita water filters to the sink and kitchen water taps. Once that's done I grab the Wise food storage containers off of the cart and i see what food's are inside of them.

Once that is done i setup the Coleman Camping coffeemaker. Once the coffemaker is setup I grab my Lodge brand Iron skillet along with a couple of Wise survival food storage Food packets and i begin to make dinner for the two of us to eat.

While dinner cooks on the stove I grab the Cutlery set off of the cart and lay it out on the table along with the table set of cups bowls and plates. Once everything is set and the coffee is poured. I say to you "Hey handsome Dinner's ready".

She had skill, I'll give her that. We were able to turn around what was a bleak, hopeless, situation for us and turn it back into something resembling life before the world went to hell. Sitting down by the small Coleman's stove and taking the plate, I placed the rifle next to me and opened up the belt. The release of it was like releasing the tension around us. The food was hot, the coffee was strong, and we had a quiet moment for us to reflect.

I had many questions, but the eating came first that I started shoveling in the food and felt my stomach expand and my muscles relax as they started getting the caffeine from the coffee. Ah I felt energy again.

"So how is your supper? i hope i did not over cook or undercook it slow down now i don't want you to choke on your food."

"It's great" I smiled at her taking a spoon and carefully moving it around before shoveling it into my mouth. Not only was the food out and nourishing, but it also boosted my morale. Hot food was good for that. "How about you? How's your food?"

Looking at her, she had a strong face, she didn't appear to be phased by what was happening. "Can you tell me, what was going on down there, before all of this happened. You said it was a cure, but what were those things?"

"Well before the serum was tested they were just regular human soldiers but the serum reacted in their bodies and turned them into zombies. But not just regular zombie they still have many of their human character traits for example they sleep at night and go out during the day.

But like regular zombies they are flesh eaters so if any of them escape from the base humans are screwed. But since the base is under ground and has tight building security they will have one hell of a time getting out.

And since they can't get out they will just end up eating each other.

"But, if they still have human characteristics, can they have brain activity? Can they remember things like, base codes, escape tunnels, and how to handle firearms?" The talk of zombies got me riled because what we faced in the tunnel didn't look like an ordinary zombie. It looked much bigger than any human I've seen, and ugly as well.

"Yes they still have brain activity but the only things that can remember are to eat and to kill and they kill with their bare hands and their teeth. And they are much bigger than your ordinary Zombie. Which Gives a distinct avantage. More surf area to shoot at. But the only way to kill them is with a head shot or a shot or shots to the heart."

That was distressing enough, "We will eventually have to purge the base. We can't just keep them down there, unless they die off or rot away. Will that happen to them?" I asked after shoveling more food down my mouth. Given the time to finally relax, my body was suddenly hungry and a void opened up in my stomach that no amount of food could fill.

"Once they have eaten each other whoever is left will eventually die and rot away but your right we should purge the base. but before we make plans to do that do you want some dessert?"

I didn't see how dessert would fit into the narrative already in place, but once she suggested it, my stomach started to crave it. I hope she didn't mean that we ourselves would be going back down in there. Fighting the gates of Hell was not what I was trained for. All that was good of me was stacking boxes and eating dessert. "Sure!" I smiled at her.

I get from the table then I go to the hotel room's small kitchen and plate up dessert for the 2 of us then I return to the table "Here you go I hope that enjoy it."
