And I invite you all to join me!

Search the forums 50 or a thousand pages ago, and bring back good threads. It will be like an adventure!

*indiana jones themesong*

Join me, fellow adventurers!

Um, not that I'm going to report you or anything, but isn't bumping old threads something that can get you banned around here (or whatever the hell happens to bad bunnies)?

Sorry, but I never really got over that good girl, internalized discipline thing.

ETA: And honestly, I don't really have the time to read back through pages of posts. If you bump, perhaps you could provide a summary? Or perhaps you could start a new thread that references an older one, but doesn't require me to read it?

hmm...

I think it's only bad to shamelessly bump your own threads, and then you can do it, but only after a certain amount of time.

Why is it wrong to bump an old thread? Not that I'm interested in doing it but just curious.

One thing that really gets on my nerves is attacking n00bs for reviving old threads and adding their 2 cents, but uhm...

You're not really contributing to the threads that you're ressurecting. You're just bumping them. If the thread piqued your interest, why not post why?

So there is no rule that says you can't? It doesn't seem to make sense that there would be.

It isn't. It happens all the time. It's usually a blast from the past, with people that made comments that are long gone or in hiding. Sounds like fun actually. :D

It's rule 9:

http://www.literotica.com/support/forum_rules.shtml

To be clear, I don't think that Cruel2BKind is bumping threads to "disrupt the forum." At all. But I thought I'd mention it in case s/he didn't know.

C2BK: I agree that there are a lot of older, great threads here. I've come across some real gems after using the search function when I've had questions, and I've been tempted to bump a fair few myself. But for threads that are more than a page or so, I'd just prefer some sort of summary or at least a contribution on the part of the person doing the bumping.

Heh. Doing the bumping. I didn't mean it in a naughty way, I swear.

Um... was this directed at me? I didn't think I was attacking?

If it came off that way, I'm sorry, C2BK. :rose:

Has anyone shown this list to the GB?

No, just a policy statement before the "uhm..." *laugh*

It gets on my nerves when somebody posts on an old thread and there's twenty posts whining about "thread necromancy". If a newcomer decides to forego that and start a new thread, there's twenty posts about "Try using search! Seen it a thousand times!"

They can't win. Too many people act as if once a discussion has happened and fallen off of page #1 that it's closed by an act of god, and anyone who dares bring it up again must be immediately stoned to death.

SSHHHH! don't say the "g" word...you might wake up that westboro idiot....

C2BK, you seem to have disappeared. I hope I wasn't a meaniepants.

Has anyone shown this list to the GB?

That's actually why I mentioned it. I didn't know how much digging C2BK wanted to do, and there has been more than one thread on the GB in recent months talking about people getting banned for bumping old threads. I don't know how much bumping one has to do to reach that threshold (since I had those people on iggy anyway), so I thought I'd mention it. I was trying to save him/her. *cue inspirational music*

fwiw, I agree with all of what you say.

Bah, that phrase has been completely neutred by the passage of time and frequency of use. It's like "God bless you," when someone sneezes. Even people wearing shirts depicting Darwin fish and "Science, Not Superstition" slogans do it out of reflex.

Talk about rules on the GB? *laugh*

There are also rules about other types of rude and disruptive behavior, but they're more or less ignored.

There may actually be a threshold for multiple bumps without adding to the discussion. Even if not intentional, that can serve to disrupt the forum, so you're perfectly within bounds LfT.

That idiot hasn't been seen since he got slaughtered on gthe incest is best thread. He pm'd me shitload of times trying to woo me over to the "light side"
$^^%$%^# loser.

For what it's worth C2bk just bumped an old incest thread. In post #51 of said thread some loser is talking about his fantasies at ages far below 18. Sometimes it is best to leave things buried.

So there is no rule that says you can't? It doesn't seem to make sense that there would be.

The forum rules are linked to the bottom right of this page. I know you would prefer others to do your googling for you, but the forum rules are linked right down there. How much energy does that take?

One reason to be cautious about bumping old threads is that they remind those of us who have been around for years of the friends that are no longer with us, either because they have ceased posting or because they have died.

Such reminders can be painful.

But there are many old threads that contain useful information. That's why we have the Library Thread as a Sticky at the top of the Hangout. Newcomers could learn from looking through some of the Library.

I think that the rule about not bumping old threads is intended to stop flooding the forum with ancient material and pushing new threads off the front page - which reminds me. I must bump the Summer Lovin Contest support thread.

Edited for PS: No need. Yourssinserly has posted to it.

But then I would deny you a chance to prove how petty you are towards me. I would be denying the other people here yet another chance to watch you pick at me for no reason other than your the resident AH troll. Tell you what Pilot for someone so smart you just keep on walking right through the door.

Sorry JBJ but PIlot is more of a troll than you. At the end of the day you have backbone.

Reminds me of the Dewar's Scotch ads in the New Yorker years ago--"Some things never change." btw, does anyone drink blended Scotch any more? I mean, otherwise than in a half-pint bottle out of a paper bag?

As for bumping, my threads are running commentaries on stories I've liked (or those where I've been disappointed). I had no intention of disrupting the Board, engaging in necrophilia, or even casting a shadow on anyone's patch.

Sorry!

I didn't know how much chaos this would cause. I only bumped three, I'll stop now, I promise.

You can punish me as hard as you want

:caning:

Does that mean you didn't look at the forum rules before asking us to do so for you? :D

Someone recently gave me a bottle of Johnny Walker Double Black, which I have been enjoying. I don't think that I would go out and buy it, but it is a pleasant change of pace.

If bumping threads could get you banned, then I can think of 2 posters who would be gone, because their stupid threads never leave AH's page 1.

Edited: I stand corrected, I don't see it. But it will be back, I'm sure.
