After weeks of being stuck in limbo on a waiting list, I finally got the word that I've been accepted into grad school! I'll be returning to my alma mater for a Masters of Science in Counseling Psychology. This has been a dream years in the making! :D

Fool. Its a vow of poverty and low esteem.

Congrats. Though I suggest you consider a PhD in clinical psychology...you'll get paid more and have more job
flexibility.

No way! They starve. Even MSWs have taken a serious hit with pay. The money aint there no mo.

You want good money? Don't think grad school; think factory. Shortage of skilled workers in the US now, with macinists making up to $100,000 in their tenth year.

But I still think some of us should go for the education; money is good, but not everything to everyone.

Believe me, I've thought this through. Truth is it's the only thing I want to do (besides write). Nothing else interests me. I'd rather make less money doing something I enjoy than make a fortune being miserable.

Go for it. Life is long and you have to make a living. Doing something you enjoy makes it a whole lot more fun. I just wish I had followed my own advise or had someone give me the advise long ago.

I advised my grandkids to do pharmacy or dentistry or anything but psychology, the money isnt there, the work is gone, and the cost is too much for what its worth.

Machinist, welder, open a garage, a/c repair, plumbing are fat careers.

But still, you have to wake up with yourself, so you should do what you enjoy. So if making money is what you enjoy - do something that makes money. If something else gets you, do that, but don't complain about the lack of money - you made your choice.

Machinist. Good money but very few openings and dwindling

Welder. Same is above unless you want to weld pipelines.

Open a Garage. Hard to afford to do since you have to upgrade diagnostic software every year for every brand.

A/C Repair. Ya might be on to something here with global warming and all. Just don't start the business in a coastal town.

Plumbing. We have a winner. Everyone who eats has to shit so it's a locked in business.

Congratulations!

I hope that you will be well prepared for it, and achieve what you want from the course.

Good for you!

I know a couple in private practice and they are doing just fine. All have taken a hit but they say they get $10+ more per session from insurance. Adds up over a career.

I know Jomar, I like to talk out my ass and make shit up; I mean what do I know about it.

I'm so happy for your sake, Brigid! :)

I know how you're feeling. I recently got accepted to law school and the waiting is nerve wrecking.

I won't admit how many years this has been on my fridge. :D

And congrats!

Nice, Tatyana. I need a copy of that. I've managed to spend my whole life in school, with only brief stints in the surreal world of "normal" life. And I keep going to grad schools, too.
