I'm not really. I'd rather lose my hearing than my sight.

Which would you rather lose, if you had to lose one sense - hearing or sight?

Hearing. I need to be able to read or I would go insane.

You lost your sense of spelling, apparantly, Laurel.

I'd lose my sense of self esteem.

Oh, thats a hard question.
I would say sight is the first answer that comes to mind, but not to see a sunset or the look in a SO's eyes...hmmm
but then not to be able to hear music, or the sound of waves hitting the shore...gosh
I'm going with PV taste, although I would miss the taste of chocolate.. damn, do I have to chose?

but taste depends so much on your sense of smell. So as long as you have that, it won't be too terribly bad. And at least you'd be able to read whilst listening to to Beethoven.

hearing.....its bad enough when i stub my toe against the couch once a month....once a hour would be painful.

lose the hearing

Atleast I would still be able to drive. Not to mention that I could still flirt. I can't imagine having to guess when and what direction to throw my "come hither" look.

what do you think braille is for? for the blind to read.

If you can hear, you can get books on tape..and read braille...and if you need to write, you can get voice whatchamacallit software and speak your words.

But if you're deaf, you can't hear the music, or the laughter, or the fingernails on the chalkboard.

Or people bitching, dogs barking, car alarms.......deaf is sounding pretty good right now.

Braille is INCREDIBLY expensive. And books on tape are highly limited selection. Most of the books I read are not available in either form. I couldn't use most computer applications either. I would suck ass at video games either way, but I NEED sight for that.

Seeing is very important to us binocular visioned creatures of the world...probably more so than hearing.

But I'd likely go insane (well, more insane) without music. As long as I have my sense of touch, I'm good.

My friends at school have always claimed that I have no sense in fashion...

Both would be bad but I would definately take deaf over blind. Loss of sight would force me to completely change my lifestyle (no job, work, computer, etc) but I could learn to be at least 80% functional without sound. Hell, I would still be able to use my soundsystem. With the sub on the bass can be felt even at moderate volume from the next room.

I'd rather be blind than deaf....

I couldn't stand to live in a silent world.

If I was blind, I couldn't sculpt or make beads anymore. If I was deaf, I couldn't sing anymore. Well, I could, but no one would want to hear me do it.

I'd go insane if I lost either, really.

I have spent a lot of time with people who are both blind and some who are deaf. I have spent much more time with a deaf/hearing impaired person then blind because of the gf of course.

I would have to say deaf. You can still get around and be mostly independent without hearing. You just need some fancy technical gizmos and spend the time to learn how to sign/read lips.

Reading lips is not that hard it just takes lots of practice and you have to ask people to speak slowly when you first start learning.

hearing, I can do a a lot more being deaf, than I can being blind.

If I was deaf

I would have no reason to continue living. I have to play guitar. Thats the whole reason I didnt cash myself in 10 years ago.
