I try REALLY HARD not to collect things...it usually gets out of hand, and it's easy for me to get into collecting multiple things. You can see how that would be bad xD

I collect Painted Ponies, Carousel Horses, Tigger, and Horse & Hound porcelain/china. I love the memories each piece invokes.
I have no problem adding to the collections as I find quality pieces

Found animal bones and choice robot toys/models. I don't really have space to collect much of anything, and IMO neither does my husband, but he does it anyway. I have no problem with having collections of things, but hot damn if I want blank wall space and free surfaces in my house. He's having a difficult time coming to terms with that (wanting to live in a really expensive city kind of doesn't help him either), so he's trying.

I guess I should expand on my OP.
I collect mostly victorian/Edwardian to 1940's hats.
I also collect macabre things, I bought an entire wet specimens collection from a retired science teacher (probably my most fun find, there's the creepiest giant jar of worms) I have a lot of strange to sad taxidermy, exotic furs, victorian mourning, oh and also 60's swag lamps and Polynesian pop (although I'm not hunting the polypop like I used to)

Women's gloves. Some of them are astoundingly tiny, yes! I'm a petite person and they don't fit. They're still pretty to look upon, though. My favorite ones are lacy and just tight enough to leave an imprint when I take them off.

Vintage clothing & lingerie, although I put the whole shebang on Etsy (in lots) last week. A combination of no longer being able to justify boxes and boxes of old stuff sitting under the bed, and an itch to move forward.

My favorite carousel is one of the oldest in the states. Real horse hair, charming eyes (literally) and a brass ring to catch. So fun.

I had to give this some thought. I'm not quite a collector in the sense that it's all one type of thing. Like collecting teddy bears or figurines. I have a thing for home decor and housewares. I like the idea of entertaining so I always look longingly at serveware sets. I usually pass it by due to money and space restrictions.

I do have a few sets still in boxes packed away. I bring out pieces for different events, but we don't have the room to keep them easily accessible. o(^_^)o When we buy a house I plan to put them in better places and use them more often. I'll probably get some lovely tea sets, too.

I'm just way too fond of buying books, shoes, really good knives etc and not good enough at getting rid of the ones I don't use.

Books. Books are a problem in our house. My SO and I both like to read. We have 3 floor to ceiling, entire wall, bookshelves in our house which continue to overflow. Surprisingly, at least to me, this seems to horrify most visitors. Don't most people read?

Ohhhh darling. My most favorite pair of boots are fluevogs. My friend found them at a second hand store we were shopping and (as they were my size) I grabbed them for $25. I have since had them resoled/heeled twice. I love them so.
I'm unsure of the style name but they are witchy boots with a weird toe/heel (I think it's a saw fish heel or something... I can find a pic if you like)
Anyway, my point is.... Fluevogs are forever!

I'm a woman, but as a vintage dealer, I've found a few ties I kept. Mostly pin-up/nudie ties but I really have a thing for skinny ties, especially these ones where they have script down the middle and mirrored on the other side (hard to explain)
I've seen names and phrases. My favorite said "go to hell" mirrored, in fancy writing

Welp, spring cleaning this year has been intense. I rent a room (and a small walk-in closet) and have donated roughly a dozen grocery bags worth of stuff... with more to come, especially as I aim to take a peek into the storage unit maybe this weekend.

Basically, though, I've made the decision to stop collecting anything. No more collecting. It doesn't make me happy in the long run, and just continuously makes me feel like, well, maybe if I bought more shit I'd be happy. Fix the unhappiness from buying stupid stuff by buying more stupid stuff.

I have an addictive personality (if you believe in that model). Flirted with all kinds of dangerous habits and escalating behaviors. I was basically an alcoholic for a while. So this is me, nipping it in the bud. It's going to be one of the hardest things I've ever done.

How's that for an addition to such a topical thread?
