I'll probably wish I hadn't asked...

With my luck, I'll probably wish I hadn't asked this question, but I'm known for letting my curiousity get the better of me. ;)

I've seen in several threads something called a violet wand mentioned. But everyone always refers to it as though everyone else knows what it is. So as silly as I feel asking what must seem like a totally basic question, would someone be so kind as to fill me in?

(I know the obvious answer would be to google it. :p But this isn't my computer, and I do my best to avoid leaving questionable material cached in the internet browser, and I'm too computer illiterate to actually clear the browser cache, so.... >.<;; )

A violet wand is a toy used for electrical play.

Just a side question but wouldn't Lit count as questionable material to most people???

Good question, Caela...

.... when I figure out how to erase the browser cache, I'll giggle a little more about that. :p

Anyone want to tell me how to do that? :D

It produces a static charge, very similar to walking across a carpet, getting that zap you get when touching something, only it is continuous. It throws a violet colored arc that can be varied in feel by attaching various tips to the wand. It is fairly harmless since it is static electricity. But as with anything, read and understand the possible hazards involved.

A violet wand is a device used to produce an electrical discharge. It is basically a souped up science fair project, based on a Tesla coil. It's called a "violet" wand because the device uses glass attachments that are usually filled with a gas that creates a pretty violet color light when an electrical charge is introduced to the attachment. The glass attachments can be filled with different gasses that can produce other colors (think neon type lights, it's the same principal).

You can vary the charge from barely able to feel to Oh My God That HURT! With some attachments, you can get fine enough control to do temporary or permanent burnings (a way of "branding" someone without having to use a branding iron). One of my favorite toys!

For more information about electical play, I recommend the book Juice! by Uncle Abdul. It's full of great information about toys, safety, etc!

There are a lot of different brands and styles but they all work off the same principle. You can find them on eBay, sometimes at great prices (I got mine for under $70.00 [and that included shipping] and it came with 5 glass attachments and one metal attachment). Search for "Quack Medical Devices" and you should find a few!

Hope that helps!

WOOHOO!! I'm smart! :D That's a first.... ;)

JS, not to sound completely dense or ungrateful, but would you happen to have tips like that for Safari for Mac? They don't exactly hold with all that right click, left click stuff... god, I hate them. >.<

Don't worry, I remember asking this same exact question. I've still not seen one in real life.

Thank you, Shy!! :D

I was so excited when I finally got to have one. On any other forum, I'd have hit that 100 mark ages ago, but I just felt bad posting -too- much meaningless and pointless crap on this one. ;)

I'm just a tiny bit of an anime freak, and since someone else on here has that really pretty Rei piccie from Evangelion, and I'm a total Chii addict, I picked this one! :)

(And it's never, ever, ever hijacking when it's my thread -- it's not a real jade thread till it's been 'jacked! :cattail:)

can anyone tell me where the thread we were talking about the bug zappers went? I thought it was this one, I was so wrong ><

I have mono. thus i'm too lazy to find it myself.
