Let's say that for whatever reason humanity had to leave earth and could and did go to another solar system.

Since most pagan beliefs revere a mother earth goddess, or some other forum of planet based religion would you:

Keep your current beliefs?
Modify them?
Try to discover the goddess/god within the new planet(s)?

What do you think?

OMGOSH, that was my 6,666th post on Lit! :cathappy:

Most revere a Mother Earth Goddess, but the Goddess/God is above that in the universe as well. I'd take them with me, and hopefully find ways to treat them in the new world as they deserved. Dates, times for certain things could possibly change due to orbital relationships to the new sun(s) but that would come in time.

I revere lots of things. If I had to go somewhere else, it would need to be catastrophic and probably against my will.

But if I went, I wouldn't have to modify my beliefs, which have to do with honoring my environment and trying to understand it, how it can best serve me, and how I can best serve it.

We're part of the entire universe not just the Earth...

No modifying required

That's more or less how I feel, that there is a creator, and the creator wanted us to honor where we were as a part of the All.

I was just wondering because...Well, like the name Gaea, would you call the new planet that? Or would you try to find the new voice?

A new voice would be cool. Maybe it'd be male. He'd have to let me know.

Pagans can't be astronauts...

Honestly, this is probably true in my case. I'm not the slightest bit interested in space travel. Sure, it's fine in theory, but you couldn't pay me enough to strap my ass to a rocket.

See?

Pagans are more suited for jobs like starbucks' employee, barnes and noble employee, or 15 year old girl...

You are so wise. May I worship you? Please? C'mon, c'mon, c'mon, be a pal.

Well, of course, but that's why I said "MUST" like...the moon is jarred out of orbit and gonna getcha sorta "MUST".

But that does bring up another question...what would motivate a pagan to go?

Other than marshalt worship?

I'd go if my children and husband were in danger and wanted me to go to care for them.

Otherwise I'd probably have a drink, sit back and wait for the fireworks.

Death to me just seems like a vacation...well, before the whole reincarnation thingy. But either way, I'd hopefully be born in the new place? Cut out the travel.

Board pagans are so going to kick your ass now.

I do have to say that I don't really "get" it.

Oh, we have so much of a better sense of humor than that.

Like we're not used to people "getting" it.

I believe in the opposing and balancing forces of Goddess/God as a universal rather than planatary set up, so it would make no difference to me.

Exploration of new knowledge? Openess to new ideas?

The fact that I've always wanted to meet an alien? :D

I think I'd go just to see how varied the mind of the creator could get, for the fun of it basically. My worship wouldn't change, but I was seeing how others felt about it. Toying with the idea of like a 5th or 6th gen pagan in space feeling the pull to go 'home' to earth as a story...

That's rough. What if the beings here are from other places already and feel pulls to go other places. You know...*cough* Just in case that...happens or anything.

But... you would die.

That's not a problem for me, and really only a temporary state anyway.

Pagan's something I was born with, not something I found.

This goes along the lines of what happens to the more mainstream religions if alien beings touched down and made contact~

I think their adaptation to a new reality would be more violent~

Earth is a generic term for Terra Firma~

Not really. Aliens would be cool. The entire view that I have is that life lives through me and creates new things experience through me. That'd sure be a new thing. I'd keep my eyes and my mind open.

I do wonder what would happen to Christianity's "made in God's image" thing when we met sentient aliens. Also made in God's image?
