If you had to live in one country for the rest of your life what would it be?

If you had to travel in one country for a year what country would it be?

If you had to travel in one country for a month what country would it be?

If you had to live in one city for the rest of your life what city would it be?

OK I'll start: Italy, Turkey, Morocco, Istanbul

I'm curious if you've ever had to deal with the Italian bureaucracy. :D

Barring any radical changes in the world:

1. United Kingdom. Better than most, more or less civilized, more or less peaceful, not much chance of being killed for my sexuality, etc etc.
2. New Zealand. I don't think I could see all of Down Undererer in a lifetime, let alone a year.
3. France. In particular, anywhere where I can get lots of wine, good Boulangerie and access to a lot of good Pâtisserie.
4. London. A hop, skip and a jump from the Continent and chock-full of culture, art, museums and European women.

  1. Buddyland
  2. Denmark
  3. New Zealand

U.S.A for the rest of my life.

Australia for a year.

Germany for a month.

I LIVE in rural countryside, and cities are for existing if I must.

1. USA is a good answer for this, since there are many different climates to experience and places for every taste.

2. Argentina

3. New Zealand

4. Berlin

1. The USA, or if I had to pick a country not my own, probably southern France, or Barcelona in Spain.
2. France, without question.
3. Spain/France/Andorra -- I'd like to hike the length of the Pyrenees.
4. Assuming it's outside the USA, maybe Melbourne. I've never been, but it sounds like a very livable place. Civilized, outdoorsy, cosmopolitan, moderate weather, and with good food (from what I've read). Less sultry than Sydney. The only downside is Australia is so far from everything and there's not as much topographic relief as I'm accustomed to in the western USA. I love mountains. But New Zealand wouldn't be too far away for that.

America.

If it's the end of my life, it would be Italy.
If it's because I won the lotto, it would be the United Kingdom.
If you had to travel in one country for a month what country would it be?
For a single month, it would be Greece.
If you had to live in one city for the rest of your life what city would it be?
I will never live in a "big city".
I will always choose a small town.

UK, Germany, Italy, London.

As Dr Johnson said, "when a man is tired of London, he is tired of life; for there is in London all that life can afford."

  • Philippines – I love the challenge, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, super-typhoons, and hyper-bureaucracy - all those things you don't get to experience at home.
  • China – so much to see, so many cultures.
  • Brazil. Kayak up the Amazon, maybe hunt down a lost tribe.
  • London W1 – where the rest of the world goes to live.

1. The USA, kind of a given, being my origin point.

2. I'd spend a year in the Philippines. I have an entire massive family there that I have never met, outside of a video chat.

3. I'd spend a month in Japan. I've always wanted to visit, and as a sushi chef I feel like I could take away a lot by checking out some popular spots that've been on my foodie list for a long while.

4. I'd like forever in Philadelphia, PA. On the burbs at least, maybe not right in the city. I'm a country girl. I spent my teens up in the north. The city is a cultural melting pot and my "for life" best friends would be within reasonable driving distance from here... I'm not crazy for the snow but it sure is pretty.

One country for the rest of my life... Easy OK, I'm biased.
New Zealand... I have travelled all over the world, back packed around Europe. Coming home to NZ, I realised how fortunate we Kiwi's are...

Before choosing other Countries. Personal safety comes into affect. I want to be able to express my sexuality without fear of bullying, or assault.

One country for a year??? Canada...Maybe... Although, it might be too similar to NZ... I loved Asia... Cheap to live there

One Country for a month??? Peru...

Live in a city???? Are you crazy???? I love the countryside.... Small towns... Where I live is a five minute cycle to the beach. Native forest at my doorstep... Snow skiing is an hours drive... Awesome ski fields... Some of the best mountain biking tracks in the world... Camping... Vineyards...

USA - I gave my life to defend it, I claim it as MINE

Australia - I spent a LOT of time making fun of it, I need to go see it

Philippines - My great uncle was a missionary there, I want to go visit the land he loved so much and see the schools he built

Fernandina Beach FL - I HATE big cities, Fernandina fits.

USA for the rest of my life.
South Korea for a year. I'd like to see how it's changed since I spent a year there in the US Army
Ireland for a month.
I would never ever live in a city again. Give me a house in the country.

Thank you for your service.
What branch did you serve in???
I was the 5th generation to serve in the Navy.

I'll spend the rest of my life in Texas.

I'd love to spend a year fishing the waters of Australia with a friend of mine.

As for a month, give me an island somewhere tropical and I'd be happy.

No cities for me, I'm a country boy. Someplace farther south than where I am now.

US; US; Australia; oh, I dunno. Current digs are probably for life, small (15K) rural town with enough retail and services to make things relatively easy.

"What city?" is where we did a lot of research 20 years ago after I started my own business and we could live anywhere there was decent Internet. We had shopping lists of "gotta haves", "nice to haves" and "no f'in' way!", and actually toured the country looking at prospective places to settle. Moderate weather was at the top of our list, but we had to eliminate the West Coast (where we're both from) as too expensive.

My wife is lobbying hard to build a low-maintenance retirement cottage on an acre plot we have in our current town, so I guess we're here to stay.
