It's not that I don't think it's terrible, and I don't particularly buy into the whole idea that I saw at the beginning of the thread that responding to certain kinds of name-calling is generally a waste of time, or it means that you don't have thick skin, some people can't afford to eat blah blah blah. I hate the word myself. But I also recognise that the "n" word is not as off-limits as it once was. Maybe it's because I'm younger but I hear it so often, in music, among friends, poetry etc. that it's come to the point that, though I may initially flinch when I hear/read it, I make a point of looking at the context in which it was used. Regardless of its history it's a word that no longer automatically conveys or implies what it used to anymore.

The way I saw Recidiva use it did not imply to me in any sense that she was using it as a racial slur to establish her racial superiority. It read to me as though her statement was concisely expressing what she then elaborated on later: LT's bad habit of seeing racial boogey monsters in every corner, with him starring as the victim. Even if this were a misrepresentation of LT's behaviour, I would not think that Recidiva interpreted the way she did out of racist motives. Not even subconsciously.

If I could I would make that word as horrible as it used to be. The fact of the matter is that that's simply not the case anymore, for a variety of reasons.
