If we get a solar superstorm...

Yes the string connected tin cans in England will suffer minimal disruption.

The equipment is identical, it's just that the US uses a band that's vulnerable to solar storms and Europe doesn't. Bit of shitty planning there by the Great Satan.

I think it's unlikely that it's gonna happen anytime soon.. so I'm not gonna worry myself.

Oh, bullshit.

North America uses 850 MHz and 1900 MHz.

Europe uses 900 MHz and 1800 MHz.

They're almost the same.

If you don't know what you're talking about, you shouldn't just make stuff up.

It's unlkely to happen, ever.

This is just one of those silly science puff pieces to make people go "oooh, scary!"

I just don't like to say never... even if the possibility is slim to none... but I agree with you ... there are SO many things out there that the news reports on with the sole intention of scaring the shit out of people.

It happens about once every two hundred years. The last one was in 1859. Pay no attention to the retard.

Telecommunications and power line engineers have been aware of the possibility of damage from solar storms for years. Solar storms are predicted in 2013/14 to be at the highest risk for decades.

The 21st Century's technology is less vulnerable than the late 20th Century's. Computers, for example, are far more robust than in the 1960s, 70s, 80s or 90s. Remember the Millenium Bug?

There could be damage but repairs would take days, not weeks or months.

A severe ice storm could cause more real damage.

Just think of all the numpties on the road when the GPS goes out, though.

from NASA, "These statistics suggest that Carrington flares are once in a half-millennium events"

You mean the retard who thought the difference between the cell systems that would save the UK was the frequencies?

There are enough of them with or without GPS.

So far this week I have had near misses from drivers turning right without looking, several driving the wrong way down one way streets, and driving down closed pedestrian only streets.

I was a pedestrian.

***

Our pedestrian shopping street had some emergency road repairs this week across the middle of the day. The contractors had to have a man standing with a Stop/Go board.

Yet the street is closed to vehicles from 10.30 am to 4.30 pm and at other times is one way only with a 20mph restriction.

Why did they need a Stop/Go board?

Work it out for yourself.

LOL. Aren't you in Dover or down that way? I've seen some amazing things down there with vehicles coming off the ferries.

NO SHIT.. on Tuesday I was almost hit TWICE in 30s from fuckers turning left while I was crossing the street.. I even had a little white walk dude!

Tell him your theory on the flow of electrons in an Alternating Current circuit!

That one was a hoot.
1) I don't know what you're talking about.

2) You're really not following this are you? Did you just stop by in a hopeless attempt to rescue Sean from his own stupidity?
