I don't know to what extent it happened but the only ideologues that I heard during the election cycle with as polarized to thinking as you are aascribing to them would have been Bernie supporters.

Americans are rather stubborn. We on the right or the left don't particularly like to be told what to do. The left doesn't currently understand this that the more they tell people on the right that they would be idiotic to support Donald Trump the more his support grows.

I was just shocked as anyone when I woke up the next morning to find that Trump has been elected.

For the first time since I was eligible to vote was the first election I didn't bother. I couldn't see driving 250 miles to the poll to cast a (probably futile) vote for Donald Trump and I sure as hell wasn't going to vote for Hillary.

The day before the election though I saw the outcome written on the back window of a Jeep. I think you called them Utes down there. It said in big letters deplorable and proud of it..
