When these tales were conceived I think people were willing to go to certain lengths to get their daughter married to a prince and have the family set up for life.

Are these situations in front of just the son, or the son and his friends?

I find the dynamic interesting that she may consciously be appealing to his friends, but then realises it is the effect on her son that is driving her.

The questions then become how far does she push it with her son’s friend(s) and / or son. And of course how he responds to his mother’s behaviour in front of his friends and in private.
