Not in Virginia. You may only use deadly force to repel an equal deadly force. So a gun or knife would need to be visable with a theatening motion at you.

You may, however, shoot to wound so long as forcible entry can be proven.

Nope, not geekish on VA laws,,, had a neighbor that pulled 10 years in the pen for shooting an unarmed gent that broke into his home.

You can beat the dog crap out've them with a ball bat,,, just don't kill them nor allow them to get outside the home.

If they had a deadly weapon in their hands, I'd probably fire on sight. Other then that, I'd hold the gun at them and give fair warning to leave. If they are there with deadly intent, then you have to do what you have to do to protect yourself.
