If slavery were legal, would you own slaves?

I happily play round with being Dominant and having someone cater to my every whim, but that's fun, consensual, and hot for both of us.

I would never own another human being.
 
While being honest, it might be a good idea to be honest with self about the probability of being in the slave owning group rather than having to live it from the other side.
 
Fuck that. Institutionalized and involuntary slavery are not BDSM.
 
This was just a thought experiment. I posted it to BDMS board, because it involved or at least could involve slaves and masters and bondage. The point was to step outside of your present world and imagine another and to look inside yourself. The easy answer is that you would never own a slave, but you can't really know for sure. Thomas Jefferson was against slavery, but he owned hundreds of slaves

If I had posted this to another board, someone on that board would have said that it should be on the BDMS board.
 
I agree with KoPilot. I'd be one of the people fighting to end slavery and wouldn't have any. Here in the BDSM board we deal in consensual relationships, not forced slavery.
 
That something is legal, does not necessarily make it the right thing to do.
And likewise, some things that are outlawed, may not be wrong after all.

Slavery is a crime against humanity, and there is no way to defend it.
 
Watching 'Who Do You Think You Are?' a few months back, one fella was dismayed to find one of his ancestors owned slaves. Turned out that his 'slaves' were actually his family, including his parents. He'd managed to free himself, then bought his family to keep them together.

I have looked inside myself and discovered that I find textbook slavery to be abhorrent no matter the circumstances. And yes, I can damn well know for sure. Just like how I know for sure that I would never, in any "world", find kiddie porn arousing, rape justifiable, or homophobia, transphobia, racism, and sexism anything but barbarism.

Your thought experiment illuminates nothing I don't already know.

Also, I should mention that as an anarchist, the "legality" of something has nothing to do with my ethics.

I was fortunate enough to be in a position to have servants waiting on me at one time. Long story, but would I want that 24/7 if I could have it? I say again... Hell yes. And I challenge anyone to experience that first before they say what their preference would actually be.
And just for clarity, those servants loved me to pieces, and I never once treated then poorly, or even as though they were beneath me. They weren't. They were people doing a job that I really, really appreciated, and they knew it.
So to the OP, if slavery were actually legal, I would probably be a much better master than most. Also, slavery has been a reality in human kind's existence for millennia. It's only very, very recent that it is illegal. There are tons of ways in which humans mistreat others, which are still not illegal, and yet we accept them. So... yeah, being totally honest, I would if I could.

Servants =/= slaves.

Lots of things have been a reality in human kind's existence for millennia, but you don't see us trying to undo other basic human rights because being waited on by someone getting paid to do a job was cool.

There are tons of ways in which humans mistreat others, which are still not illegal, and yet we accept them.
