personally, i'd back President Biden going up against trump, because right now i don't see anyone standing out clearly from those who might take on the job. I'd rather see another term for the president with Kamala Harris continuing to learn the depths of the job in preparation to take full control of the political reins if needed.

but i'd like to hear who others might see as ready to step into the role, with experience, with the kind of qualities that would benefit the USA both at home and on the world stage.

Frankly all the Left has besides Biden are wannabes, Gavin Newsom, and RFK Jr.

There's no real support for any of them at the moment. That will change after the New Year as the D's rally behind whoever will be carrying their flag.

Two I can think of, off the top of my head: Pete Buttigieg or Cory Booker.

I've always liked Mayor Pete, but that would be awkward for him to run against Biden in a primary as a sitting member of his cabinet (or are we just talking hypothetically here?)

i like both of them

both seem like modern-day politicians as seen more in the rest of the world

to save me looking everything up, can you be specific as to why these two tick the boxes for you and could you see enough people putting aside their bigotries to vote for Pete B as a presidential candidate? in an ideal world, that shouldn't even be a factor in considering his qualifications.

Joe Biden was the right person to meet the moment in 2020, and nothing has changed to alter that for 2024.

*nods*

Side note: Andy Beshear is looking like a bit of a dark horse for 2028 imho.

I haven't seen anything from Pete to impress me. Is there a law on AOC's sitch? She's 34 BUT she' turns 35 in October.

Pete B. speaks intelligently and clearly, and has no issue talking with Conservatives / their media. He could go toe to toe with that well-spoken snake-oil salesman Vivek Ramaswamy, and eviscerate him without being a jerk. MAGA crowd would want him dead, but moderates wouldn't.

Booker is more of a firebrand, but some similar qualities. Great with a microphone, too.

Policies seem in line with my preferences, for the most part.

Pete has the temperament to handle Conservatives /media without getting passionate/emotional. Which lends himself to being taken more seriously among these groups. I don't think his sexual orientation matters to the vast majority of the GOP. Truly radical evangelicals are in the minority. Then again, the truly radical nut jobs seem to be spreading into the majority.... Nevermind!!

I can see why some of these candidates are liked here, and some would probably do a good job, but almost none of these are electable for various reasons but mainly because they are too far away from the centre. Biden's position has changed. In 2020 he was the best chance of beating Trump. In 2024 Trump's candidacy is Biden's best chance of being elected. If Biden runs and Trump does not I hate to say it, but I think that there are several Republicans that could win. Apart from Pelosi I do not think there is anyone on the Democrat side with either the authority or the balls to force Biden out.

I suspect that America is tired of old men generally, and Biden in particular. Unfair, because his cabinet and administration is very solid. But life's unfair.

I just watched an interview with Adam Kinzinger, and was thinking that I would probably vote for him if he ran. I don't agree with many of his policies, but he has come a long way since he first entered politics. He's honest, transparent, humble and not afraid to admit to past mistakes. His level of integrity is so refreshing! He's kind of like a Conservative Obama.

I'd love to see a Buttigieg / Kinzinger mixed ticket!

Personally, I'd hate to see 'Murica get Kalifornicated by GavIKnowItAllAndI'mSoGreatAtEverything.

Andy might be OK, but I'm not sure how much support he'd get. Papa Steve didn't even try to go national.

Actually this is a great question Butters...and one highlighting the problem with my Democratic Party. They lack policy. Therefore they lack any leadership fighting for policy. People want policy.

What do people want? Ask them. Develop policy to address that. Run on that policy.

Who would be a good President? Not Biden. Not Harris. Bashear cares the most. But he is on record of not wanting to haul his family through that swamp. Can't blame him. But he is a good person. That is rare

No matter how much I look around I can't find enough on Harris to care and Biden has been pretty much as good as we could hope for under the current rule set. On the incredibly off chance that Cenk Ungyr wins his court case I don't want that hot head as president or even on stage. If I wanted Tucker Carlson with a tan I'd buy the man some bronzer.

Dribs brings up a good point.

Lol....just kidding...

Let's fly over and talk with Xi to try to stop the escalation of rhetoric between our two countries and try to stop an inflow of drugs from China...and then...in an off the cuff remark call Xi a "Dictator". Now...of course he is...but seriously...how stupid are you? Old people should not be in power to lead. Maybe 20 years ago...Biden may have had the mental acuity to pull off the position. But these kinds of "slips" are detrimental to our country

I am not american so it is hard for me to understand that the elections will be between trump and biden again. Is there really no one better suited? Imreally like that lation woman, ms. cortez. Someone young, talented and witty.

Nice video interviewing young people in Arizona on CNN...and how he has lost their vote. Remember...this is a State Biden won by just over 10,000 votes. Democrats...what was my Party...have...a serious problem and they refuse to accept this. And as a result...they will lose. Don't blame those that refuse to vote against their morality. Blame the Party for not putting forth a candidate capable of winning

Better suited? Younger? Yeah there are. Many of the names put forth here. But both candidates have a big ego problem. Neither Trump or Joe will see the writing on the wall and step out of it.

And the Republican voters are drunk on Trump. They don't seem to care how toxic these court cases are going to make him to independent voters and realize he can't win with Just his base.

Joe on the other hand has challengers but the dnc and the media are working to ignore them and make people think that Biden is their only choice.
