IQs have begun falling.

Is it because we don't teach handwriting anymore as this article posits?

My theory is that we no longer read, dazzled by all the choices on the ubiquitous big screen television that dominates our living room
(or viewing room, library, bedroom? Maybe that explains falling fertility and birth rates too...).

Handwriting is considered a fine motor skill that stimulates and challenges the brain, but with schools turning to technology instead, some teachers are complaining students can barely hold a pencil but can swipe and double-click on their devices.

Students with learning disabilities like dysgraphia - when children can read but have trouble writing letters - can also be affected because methods of overcoming the disability requires them to practice writing by hand.

Previous studies have revealed that IQ scores have dropped for the first time in a century and indicated that technology could be to blame.

Years ago, a friend asked me to help his daughter with math, because I'm good with math. She had horrible operational processing skills, the poor thing. Nice kid, but nice can't get why we multiply and divide. What I noticed was that for every computation, she reached for her phone.

Calculator.

I made her a times table to 12 x 12 and made her memorize it.

She is graduating college this spring and wants to be a . . . teacher . . . .

Yes. I have observed that. It should be a crime to put a calculator in any classroom up to the graduate level.

You have to know the basics (just as in the martial arts or any sport) if you are going to master the material.

You should probably Google it.

"Hey Siri, why are IQs falling?"

Learning 'rithmatic makes a brain do brain things. It also stimulates Rational Thinking.

One of Lit's Former Resident Jeenyuseses R.I.P (and Allah keep him good-n-warm) demonstrated that he didn't know the diff'runce between a "dot" and a "decimal point." Yet we were 'sposta be in awe of his Mad Skillz.

The folks who once advocated for a separate but equal education; the people who disrespect teachers at every turn except to offer up their lives as cannon fodder to shooters; the folks who reject science on vaccines and climate and happily eye their bank accounts while bemoaning the current economic upturn as false math; the folks who are banning books and have undermined funding to American public sector education for generations are, wait for it, complaining about the state of education in America.

Ahhh, yes! Spot on observation going here! It's the calculator!
We all remember how when the abacus was introduced into the classroom forced a decline in the counting by head, shoulders, fingers, knees and toes, knees and toes.

Tech has been the best thing ever for people with reading/writing skills. My boy is severely dyslexic but has learned to read fluently. He reads fiction and non-fiction for entertainment. His handwriting looks like a five-year old's but on a keyboard it's as good as anyone's. It has nothing to do with intelligence; he regularly embarrasses those who underestimate him.

“Many of the students [protesting] today are unqualified students. They were admitted because of DEI. They were admitted because Qatar and other Arab countries are paying for foreign students. These are not the best and the brightest students, they are the loudest students, but they're certainly not students who are looking out for the best interests of America.”

There's no question. Your hate for pretty much everyone shows how frustrated you are with your life.

That has to be a direct result of your 85 points on the scale...

Yes. Lesser minds refute by attacking the source rather than challenging the idea...

I read somewhere that the MAGAt movement was afeared of all the dem voters spilling across the southern border like a horde of zombies, so they initiated a program to increase the amount of stupid people in order to remain politically competitive. MTG is an early prototype success.
