Ideas for promoting kindle books?

Hi, I'm Lisa. I recently finished writing and published my first sex story book for Kindle (via Amazon).

I'm wondering if you guys have any ideas about how I can promote my book. I have a blog and a page for my book, and I have twitter and I'm working on getting followers, but it's not really doing much.

I'd love to hear any ideas you guys may have! I hope to write more in this format but until I need to learn more about the marketing side first I think.

Thanks for your feedback,
-L

You should ask about marketing in the Author's Hangout, since there are tons of authors there who have had a lot of success with e-books and other published stories/books. I'd bet there are even quite a few threads on this very topic out there; if nothing else, perhaps someone in the AH can point you to those.

Be careful to not violate Lit's advertising rules, though. It's one thing to give examples of your blog and book when you're honestly requesting help/feedback, and discreet links in sigs to authors' e-books off-site are generally well tolerated here, but it's quite another to come here for the primary purpose of promoting your work/making money (or give the appearance of such). I'm not accusing you of doing that, I'm just trying to give you fair warning. If you need a refresher on the rules, there's a link at the bottom of each page.

Best of luck with your book! :)

Really? You can actually sell your own stuff on Amazon? I thought you needed a horrific amount of agents, contracts, lawyers, etc etc etc etc. I thought you could do it yourself on pay-pal, e-mail, and your own website, but not through a name-brand site like Amazon due to censorship-related issues because huge corporations are scared shitless to touch erotic fare, as everyone tends to jump on a bandwagon and cause a massive stink about this kind of thing.

I would suggest going to such sites as goodreads.com and creating an author's profile. You can then join groups of people who like erotica and advertise your book to them. You can also look up other books which are in your chosen genre, read reviews, and then friend request people who enjoyed those books. Friend requesting other author's in your genre would probably be helpful also. It's all about networking.

Thanks, good point - pulled the links, I don't want to break any rules.

hellsgate- you'd be amazed at what you can find for kindle in Amazon. Many covers have nudity. I tried to play it on the safe side for this first project.

I'll check out the authors forum, still getting my feet wet here.

Skaoi, thanks for the ideas!

I would like to know if Literotica would have a problem with an author posting a free short story here which uses a character from a Kindle book that same author wrote and letting readers of that free short story know about the Kindle book for sale featuring that same character.

What would be the rules on this? No, I have not done it and will not unless it is acceptable.

I think Literotica could provide a great place to expose readers to the work of authors of erotica. It could attract more professional authors to the forums if this were encouraged.

Again, I will abide by the rules. I have none of my work posted here yet.

I'm not sure of the answer to this. Stop by the AH and ask it there.
