I95 Collapse

This is the road we're pretty much stuck with using to get to my son's house north of Philadelphia. And we always suffer going through the section that has fallen. "Cottman" from Cottman Avenue is a family name (and there's a family connection to that particular road) and there has been construction and slowdown here every time we've gone through on I-95. Out with the maps now to seek alternative routes.

Where is Buttigieg? We need to find out how this collapse is part of systemic racism.

I heard there was one person trapped. I hope they are able to rescue him or her.

Is the Centurions Motorcycle Club really next to Armour of God Ministries?

It had to be a controlled demolition.

Burning fuel cannot bring down steel structures...

LovelyNice

It's a plot to keep protesters from getting to Miami.

What a gutter sucker you are. You're almost a parody of yourself.

Pete Buttigieg and Philly officials are on the clock.

- MacArthur interchange in Oakland, Calif., where three freeways meet, melted from an exploding tanker fire similar to the one in Philadelphia in 2007. It was fully rebuilt in 26 days.

- Collapsed freeway overpass in Los Angeles after the 1994 Northridge earthquake reopened in 84 days.

- Collapsed Pine Island bridge in Florida caused by Hurricane Ida reopened in 3 days.

^^^ Yeah well that pine island 3 day reopening was a temporary bridge while the damaged bridge is expected to reopen in the fall of 2023.

Good try at political snark, but the reality is that things like 95 bridge collapse is why the infrastructure bill was necessary.

Root cause ? Maybe a little better truck drivers? I see so many of them these day, running over stuff, cant back up a rig. Amazon drivers lol, OMG do they own a straight van or truck.

The collapse in Atlanta is probably a similar, better, and more recent example to cite but I agree with you that we tend to repair these collapses fairly quicker than the estimated time for repair and I imagine we will do so again especially for such a vital vein as I-95.
Why the need to politicize this is silly.
Americans didn’t know nor cared who was heading DOT in Oakland or LA then and I am guessing you mentioned Pine Island because you wanted to credit Desantis somehow.

Here’s Pine Island for those needing help comparing to any of the other collapses mentioned.

This thread was intended to be lighthearted.
Why you raining on my Indictment Day Parade?

The unnecessary shitstain-driven snark in the first sentence overrides the would-be compassion professed in the second.

The I-35W Mississippi bridge took thirteen and a half months, and opened three months ahead of schedule.

We have more infrastructure than we can afford. As driving and repairs become more expensive, the increasing response to collapses will be "fuck it, we don't really need that bridge." Highway bridges may be particularly unnecessary. Surface intersections will be fine for less and slower traffic, unless we keep highways below grade as canals for boat traffic. Water roads are cheaper than pavement and railroads in maintenance.

Big Joe gettin' it done.

They say two weeks for a temporary fix to get traffic flowing.

"Pennsylvania's plan for the work involves trucking in 2,000 tons of lightweight glass nuggets for the quick rebuilding, with crews working around the clock until the interstate is open to traffic. Instead of rebuilding the overpass right away, crews will use the recycled glass to fill in the collapsed area to avoid supply-chain delays for other materials, Shapiro has said.

After that, a replacement bridge will be built next to it to reroute traffic while crews excavate the fill to restore the exit ramp, officials have said."

Building one bridge three times for convenience is an extravagant expense, while fuel costs are always rising. This could have been a moment to stop and think about other options, but nah, that didn't happen.

Yeah, because if that section of highway wasn’t expeditiously reopened, and the economy and peoples lives suffered as a result, the usual suspects “definitely” wouldn’t have made a yuuuuuge whine fest out of it.

🙄

SAD!!!

We have tried and tried to get high speed rail for cities...but no one wants to pay for it. So other countries have amazing mass transport service...America has busses. Brilliant. I can 100% guarantee a project like the Eisenhower interstate system could never be built today. Neither Party has pride

Dud(e), read the wiki, these are newly proposed or currently under construction projects, not maintenance of existing Interstate Highways. I-69 is a mix of new roads and bridges that in some places use existing roads but require major updates to meet new standards.
