I would never date anyone younger than....? I've had this discussion with several people. Some say, 18 is the cut off point, Where others say 21 is the cut off point. Age is relative, I know, but does anyone have an age that is definitely taboo.

I won't go younger, the maturity (no offense to anyone) is alot different.
Sure a night of hot sex, and humm..the stanima would be nice but not worth it for me.
I've always dated older men. They have already went through the trial and error stages, now it is just a settling down point. My hubby is 12yrs older than I am.

I never dated anyone younger than me, either, in all my life - until Creidhne. He's 7 years younger than me and, though it never made a second's diff to him, it took me a ridiculously long time to get past the age difference.

I couldn't imagine being with anyone too much younger than he is, though, even if i were looking (which i am not). As Chey said, there's that "mom" thing that would happen... and that's a game i'm not at all interested in playing.

I have dated someone younger than me and I won't do it again. It bothered me when we were dating...he was still finishing college, while I was trying to get a career started after college...It's a personal hangup and one I don't feel I need to get over, I have bigger fish to fry.

Legally in the UK you can have heterosexual relations with anyone over the age of 16 (18 for homosexual relations) but that makes me feel a little like a pedo considering I'm 33 going on 34 and apart from the legal point of view what would we have to talk about, the only shows we really share are the teletubies and most of the music I like was made before she would have been born, so I'd say my lower limit would have to be 20.

I've personally seen a lot of situations where someone in their mid 30's dated someone 18 -24, and in effect stole their youth from them. There are things that you do between those ages that are a part of growing up and finding your place in the world, and sometimes being with an older person circumvents some of the natural evolutionary processes.

How low would I go?

It's really hard to say. I'm 30 now but I'm a real romantic and believe on some level that it could happen between almost any two people.

In real life though, I've actually never dated anyone who wasn't within one year of my own age (sample size:5).

On the other hand, I got a late start in love, so I never dated/slept with anyone under 19 and have always wondered....

I guess I don't think it's possible for me to know the answer until it actually came up in real life.

My main worry these days with anyone over 20 is that they'll be much too mature for me.

The internet, odd medium that it is, always has me rubbing elbows with people who are 10 to 20 years older than I am. Chatrooms and RPG rooms are worse - I can't count the number of times I've been flirting with a woman who ran for the door when they found out my age.

I've never noticed the same reaction in men but I think society itself encourage older men/younger women relationships. My father, for example, was eleven years older than my mother and her family thought nothing of it. (Then again, they were focusing on his being black)

While I'm all for the idea that you love the person not the age, as always ,reality muddies that ideal quickly. In the relationships with a ten year or more difference I've seen either the younger partner looked older or the older partner looked younger; which leads me to believe there's a perception issue. If our culture didn't view such a relationship as being a bit off (especially when the woman is older) I don't think that it would create as much discomfort for those involved.

A number of people have spoken about 'maturity' being a deciding factor but neither my experiences in the RL and on the internet have not shown that older people are always more mature. I think anyone on this board could name easily name five people off the top of their head who is older than them and less mature. (Of course, how old you are and the number of people you know factor into this) I think I could name at least twelve...

That said, no matter what that dislike comes from I can understand why someone wouldn't wish to date a person too much younger than they are. No one should have to feel 'momish' or 'dadish' - since I think that's just code for 'foolish.'

Besides; I think stamina is one of the first things to go.. wouldn't want anyone to get hurt.

If you check my profile, you'll find that "I'm looking for a woman of 26 who want to live in sin with a man twice her age." That's pretty much a facetious requirement, but...

I don't ask women their ages. I am more concerned about whether they're interesting people to be around. Eighteen with an "old soul" would be preferable to fifty-two in her second childhood.

In practical terms, I'm attracted to women in thier thirties so twenty years difference isn't too much for me and the facetious "half my age" requirement is about my limit for age difference.
