Read. Lots.
And write, lots.

You might also check out Lit's "How To" section. There's some good advice on writing there from other Lit writers.

who's 'they'?

"They" would be the administrators of this or any other story site.

You need to quickly break the habit of using those chat shortcuts.

Read everything you can get your hands on - all types of writings. Read about how to write. Enroll in a community college course on creative writing.

Find an idea for a story, dream it, discover it, imagine it, experience it, whatever.

And just start writing.

When you get to what you feel is the end of something, rewrite it. Use spell checkers and grammar checkers. Ask friends to read your story with a discerning eye. Rewrite it again. Ask a different set of friends to read it. Again rewrite.

Put it on the shelf for a week and start another story.

Then pull it out with fresh eyes and rewrite. Ask one of the volunteer editors on Lit to help. Then submit your story - nerves and all.

Good luck! :rose:

With your background, I'd suggest you do an illustrated story.

For example, half of a video conference gone kinky, or something.

Whoa!

Is this the Story Ideas forum?

Edited to add: Welcome to the AH.

Does that work?

A man can fix any problem with a roll of duct tape.

A woman can do the same with a lot less effort by showing off her rack.

ACK!

Misconception. Depends on the rack... oh, God, does it depend on the rack.
