Try, just write. No one has to see it. Write anything, maybe based on a dream or a memory, a book or film you've seen. That's the secret, it is difficult, like an artist confronted with a blank canvas, making the first mark is hard. At least you want to try, and welcome to the PFD.

Yes, we all started somewhere with a line that wasn't really perfect or maybe didn't make much sense. Some other sources of inspiration: a walk in nature or household chores, so many ideas that popped up working in the kitchen...

Welcome to the forum. We all struggle with inspiration and all you can do is start writing. The more you practice the easier it gets. Personally I get inspiration from reading poems and listening to music. I'm sure everyone has their methods. And if you're really stuck, you can always search "poetry prompts" or "writing prompts." There are lots of sites that will suggest ideas; they're often generic IMHO but you never know what'll work unless you try. We have loads of challenges here from the sublime to the ridiculous and everyone is welcome to join in.

I was just writing something on not being able to write.

Uninspired

I was thinking about giving up on this
I’ve got no ten cent words
Not even a nickel word
I looked under the couch cushions
Scraped a few pennies together
And it got me thru 10…11… poems.

I know I cannot write
I have no idea how to punctuate these
My writing is forced and terrible - I have no grace
It’s like punk rock
Short, sweet and straight forward
I got no idea how to play this guitar.

I am not fishing for compliments
Nor am I feeling sorry for myself
Just coming face to face with the truth.

I started writing here so I wouldn’t kill myself
And try to deal with bad ptsd flare-up
But I don’t wanna kill myself anymore
So I guess I’m outta material >8^ )

But I am promised myself I’d get
Fifty two poems done
I am a determined motherfucker
And I ain't gonna stop quite yet.

You should not give up. It is a fact, the more you write the more you'll improve.

Take some time to read other poets.
Shorten and prune unnecessary words.
Write from your heart (but I think you do that already.)

You've already written some promising stuff, keep on slugging, and beat that nagging doubt.

I just want to echo what everyone else has said…

Write. Be bold and courageous and write absolute shit just to see if a phrase worth exploring pops out (sorry for the excremental imagery).

That’s what I do anyway.

Just write. The lovely people here are supportive and understanding so… write… and please let us read.

Now I’m off to figure out how to work “excremental imagery” into a lil ditty about my having shit-for-brains.
