There's a lot of negativity about unsolicited Private Messages (for example, in the I didn't answer your p.m. because..... thread).

I believe that, despite inevitable idiotic PMs, there are still plenty of good introductions being made quietly in the background. I'd therefore like to try to redress the imbalance and also promote the Team PM principles (see my signature).

Please apply similar principles to the IDAYPM thread, i.e., be truthful, funny, warm (and preferably not backhand snarky), but don't name names.

Of course, if this thread dies quickly, then it suggests that the cynicism elsewhere is justified, so please try to keep it alive! :)

I'll start:

IWHTAYPM because you were friendly, engaging and you addressed me as an individual without imposing any unrealistic expectations.
.

Bumped from page 3.

Who else is prepared to share some positive feelings, rather than the usual grizzles? :)
.

IWHTAYPMB - I realize that sometimes sending that PM is really hard to do, and I appreciate that you took that risk for me :)

IWHTAYP because you always engage me and inquire about things I have told you previously.

IWHTAYPM because you took the time to read my profile before messaging me!

Same as above!!

You like what I posted and wanted to discuss in further detail. You gave me a wonderful compliment. Or, you also asked me nice, thought provoking questions. I like that.

IWHTAYPMB...

I liked your posts; you made me laugh; you took the time to read my profile before you PM'd me.

IWHTAYPM because you took the time to think about what you wanted to say and wrote in complete sentences instead of txt abbreviations. You were complimentary without being creepy and you showed a sense of humor.

I was happy to answer your PM because I noticed that you were witty and fun in the threads, and your PM was just as charming!

What a wonderful thread!!!

Sadly, say what you will about the Nixon administration, it was discovered that gripe goes a lot farther than an act of kindness. We are hardwired, literally, to make associations with negativity. Why? Because negativity is more important. When you sense a high heat you immediately remember sticking your finger into a flame and getting burned as a kid, and reflexively respond by pulling back whenever you feel something hot after that. The point being negative association is very strong in our minds.
Best of luck with the joy-joy thread.

I was happy to answer your PM because your PM was sweet in it's innocent attempt to brighten my day.

Yep, what she said😀

I was happy to answer your pm because I was trying to engage you in conversation. :p

I always answer my PM's... no matter what they might contain or who they are from. Unless of course I accidentally delete them, which has happened.

I like to get them and I'm happy to answer them all.
