I Wants! (says the Mac Cultist)

I'd love a mac but I'm locked into pc software.

(I know mac can be pc formatted, but some homegrown software, etc...maybe in a couple of years)

Hey, I am locked into PC by some standards...

...but I keep thinking I would like to diversify. :D

I have to say that I am disappointed with Apple's current aluminum and black design scheme.

You have the best of both worlds, yannow. Boot Camp is your friend.

That being said, I checked the facts.

Slow hard drives... third rate graphics... a bit heavy for a 13-inch 'puter... and still no blu-ray? Really?

Otherwise it seems top notch. Macs have the best laptop screens on the market at the moment. And the casing technlogy is sexy as hell.

More Gelaskins:

I bought my first Gelaskins after my brand new MacBook acquired a dent courtesy of airport security. Hid the dent nicely, looks gorgeous. I got a Ralph Steadman design (portrait of Hunter S. Thompson) for my ipod. Here's the laptop version of same:

3113, something tells me you'll like the new Steampunk 'skins.

??? Dude, you really can't help it when it comes to Apple can you? I'm imagining the day some lady says about your kid, "What a pretty/handsome child...." and you saying, "Well, they haven't dimples and their hair could be less frizzy, but yeah, they're pretty nice looking." ;)

That said, this is the MacBook, the relatively inexpensive one, they have to keep the price down--and given that they've a new graphics chip...I'm mystified by this "third rate graphics" accusation. Not that it matters to me, I don't play games.

You can get better if you want to go for this, and if not, Apple does let you customize. Would an SSD sate you?

Oh, pardon for interrupting the fawning. :D

I just really can't help it when it comes to people idolizing a brand, whichever it is. And paying through the nose for it. It amuses me.

Don't get me wrong, it's a good product. Macs are generally high quality. And in the frontline of innovation, like with the one piece casing and the multi-touch pad. It's just not that fantastic, if you look at how it actually performs compared to the price tag and weight. It IS far more expensive than comparable competitors. (Especially the Pro is grossly overpriced) So the extra dollars spent must be for something else... a fashion statement?

ETA: Actually, to be fair, the new Imacs are really good bang for the buck.

I'm sure you could build your own, ultra fast, ulta perfect, with every "i" dotted and every "t" crossed and have it for $19.95. And if you can, i ask that you do, elegant software included, so I can buy that and fawn over it.

What I'm saying is, amused you may be, but this is what the market has to offer. This is what I, as someone who can't build computers and don't have the time to waste on building them even if I did, have a choice of. I don't have time to make the uber-computer, program it, nor, have I time to examine every computer on the market in every country in the world and find those with the fastest graphics, hard drive, elegant look, fantastic key pad, built in camera...etc, etc, etc, etc, etc....all for the low, low price of $19.95.

So, no, I don't appreciate you undermining my fawning. It really is like taking a kid shopping in a store with five bikes, and the one reasonably priced one that does everything the kid wants it to do you say, "Well, it's okay. But there are other countries and people that make better."

Thanks. That makes me so happy with you and the bike that is there for me to buy and that's available to meet my needs. Go poop someone else's party.

It is not "brand loyalty" it's the way mac OS works-- cleanly, reliably, and relatively bug free. It's designed for visual people who don't crunch numbers easily. It's so far much more useable for me that my preference looks like "brand loyalty."

I am the default IT person at my house, and my husband has a PC. When he screams that he can't get on the internet (after every windows update,) and I have to go into those preferences? What an unmitigated pain in my ass!

And damned if I know why it does this, either. It's not as if the help function makes sense to me. It might to you....

PCs are for people who want to work with computers.

Macs are for people who want to work.

All right. Opinions not welcome. Gotcha.

I'm not gonna fan the flame war over a fucking computer.

I'm out.

and still no blu-ray? Really?
From Apple discussion boards: "According to apple the licensing for blu-ray is a nightmare, and currently the prices for blu-ray peripherals are so high that it would crank up the costs a bunch. They said they're keeping their eye on it, and as it becomes more mainstream they'll consider it more. "

If you have an opinion about the computers--such as the price; (and I so fucking agree with you, I wonder if I'll ever buy new in the box)
Or about the OS-- such as; slow processing speed, (The way the mac OS uses the processor makes them work faster than they do with windows) or "no blu-ray" (3113 posted Apple's excuse for that)
That's not going to piss me off. We can talk about those things.

If you're going to sneer at my preference as "idolising a brand", I might want to explain why I do. I might be a little defensive about it, depending on how I read your comment.
3113 expressed her sense of defensiveness. I expressed my reasons for preferring the OS. Rob expressed two possible preference points.

So you feel outnumbered-- therefore, it's the rest of the thread's fault?
