Only that they have to enjoy it in the end. If you go too far then it will get bounced.

Also the readers in that category can be rather picky and some even rabid when even the least hint of rape emerges.

Here is what the onbline dictionary says, but there is also a word with a similar meaning spelled with a "t." http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/consensual

Anyhow, it doesn't have to be rape, it can be extortion or sexual harassment or something of that sort. Those would probably make better stories, because the victim would not be fioghting back, and would be more likely to enjoy the action, which usually makes for a sexier tale.:D

The only real "guideline" I know of is "Lit publishes rape fantasies, not RapIST fantasies" -- I'm sure Laurel's explanation is still somewhere back in the archives, but it isn't as simple as "if the victim has an orgasm you're OK." Laurel went into some detail over about a dozen posts a very long time ago when she was more active on the forums, but it pretty much boiled down to a subjective decision by the editor as to the distinction between rape fantasy and rapist fantasy.

As I recall, I have written only one actual rape story, for Halloween a few years back, and the rapist enjoyed it. It was dark and morbid, but it was acceptable because of the ending. I have written some role-playing rape stories and other kinds of non-consent tales too, but it is not my favorite category.

That's pretty much why Laurel's long ago eplanations covered so many posts. There isn't any way to really define a "rapist fantasy" because the exact same events could be depicted in two stories and one would be accepted and the other rejected, all depending on the tone set by the author.

The quality of storytelling probably figures into the subjrctive evaluation process, too; an accomplished writer can make a very dark and vicious rape easy to read, while a mediocre writer can butcher a simple pre-arranged rape fantasy to the point that nobody would read it if it did get approved.

Bottom line is that if you write a good story where the rape is an integral part of the story instead of just gratuitous violence, it will probably be accepted. Conversely if you write poorly and there is no real purpose in a (violent) rape scene, then the story will probably get rejected.

thanks, I am not sure what I want to do, I like those stories, but I don't want to put time into a story and have it rejected

You might look in the AH Library thread at the top of the page and do a search for what Weird Harold was talking about. There's also a bunch of other neat stuff in there.

If you worry about rejection, you'll never write anything. Even if Lit rejects yor story, there are other sites that won't reject anything, leaving the "rejection" up to the readers' feedback and votes.

FWIW, if this would be your first story, you might want to choose another category; the votes and feedback in nonconsent can be be harder on the ego than simple rejection. (Loving Wives is the only category I can think of with a worse reputation for trollery.)

I'm not sure if Laurel's comments are in the Library thread, they were long before it was established -- I think back before the conversion from UBB software to vBulletin software. If the thread is still there, it is so far back that the search function will have trouble finding it because of the limit on search results.

Don't worry about story rejection. It's not like going to the principal's office :)

As you would have seen, expect a lot of nasty comments and feedback - this category and loving wives seems to attract a lot of people who want to make a statement (but haven't read the story anyway). You'll get a lower than average vote score too :D

Non-consentual (consensual, whatever), covers a lot of ground, from play-acting couples, reluctant dates, cheating spouses, incest, stranger danger. You can't please everyone.

If it is extremely hard-core, like body parts are getting cut etc, you might want to put a warning at the beginning of the story eg. Author's note: blah blah.

Just remember, every fantasy has a place and you will find an audience (whether big or small) - and don't forget spell check!
