I can't get a dog. But I want a dog. What kind of dog would I get? What would I name it? I don't know, but it would be the best dog.

Here are some dogs I like:
  • Lab
  • Husky
  • German shepherd
  • Australian shepherd (LOVE THESE)
  • Chihuahua miniature pinscher mix/italian greyhound/ratdog
  • Long-haired dachshund
  • Poodle (because they are smart and don't shed)
  • All dogs
I had a miniature schnauzer growing up. He was a sweet grump. I loved him. Also a pomeranian. She's still kickin' around with my parents, being an old diva.

I tend to think about the next dogs in practical matters that I learned from the last ones. The bigger the dog the shorter they live. Mutts seem to be healthier than purebreds because they have less genetic problems bred into them that makes them purebreds.

Do I want a small lap dog or a bigger dog that people don't mess with me or my house.

How will the dog do in the climate I live. Do they shed/blow their coats twice a year because that means a lot of vacuuming. Do I want a puppy which means house training and cleaning up poop and pee. Not to mention they like to chew on everything.

I prefer to get my dogs from the pound. When I go there looking for an older dog I ask who have you been keeping around even though enough time has passed that they should have been killed by now.

That sounds like a lot of thinking. Dog or do not dog. There is no try.

I have a feeling that my dog will find me.

Pheelie, if you really need a pooch, you deserve nothing less than Cerberus itself.

:D:devil::heart:

3x the puppy kisses and only one (very large) plastic bag. You can't argue with math!

I can sort of picture myself having this big badass dog that's super well-trained but the reality will always be more like

and I'll be like OKAY :heart::heart: and devote all of my energy to a terribly behaved dog. Cesar Milan I ain't.

Have you ever thought about fostering dogs? You are basically keeping a dog while adaptation agencies are trying to match it with a new home. If you like it you can just keep it.

Gorgeous. Love her vest. Even in the photos you can tell she is brimming with sweetness.

This is the newest member of the family, my daughter's dog Hank, the beagle.

He's between 10 and 12 and blind and we both love him to pieces. He went to the vet the other day and when the vet tried to put drops in his eyes, Hank tried to bite the vet. I kinda laughed. They had to muzzle him. lol

Awwww :heart: My friends have a guy named Hank with some beagle in him. He had parvo when he was a puppy and they think it might have made him a little dumb but he's super fun and cuddly.

Mhmm, a coworker just did it, but I can't have a pet in my building and I'm not home enough. I should find a way. Pete says I should find a way. Thanks for the suggestion.

Australian Shepherd dogs are very active and need a lot of exercise. Australian cattle dogs are even more active and they own you, not you them. They are intensely loyal but I'm not sure what they are like with children.

Not to sound harsh but if you really want a dog the first step is to move somewhere they are allowed. If you can't do that then maybe a dog isn't high on your list of what you really want. And that's OK.

I used to have a Yorkshire Terrier but he's gone. I got lucky with him as he was well-behaved. Damn I miss that little angel.

I really want to get a cuddly Irish Wolfhound. I want a pet big enough to cuddle. :)

I currently have a 110lb Lab/Greyhound mix. Awesome demeanor, sweet as pie, fast as the wind... Or was, he tore his ACL a few years ago. Now he just lays about collecting dust. We try and get him out and work his leg a little, but winter time here is such a bitch.

Your list is weird. The first four are high energy dogs bred for a specific purpose that will make your life hell unless you're committed to training and LOTS of exercise. Be prepared. Labs will eat everything in your house not intended for consumption.

A great family dog is a boxer, and how about a older rescue dog? I miss my boxer girl Sophie every day!

I get that. My daughter really wants to get a dog, and I would love to, but we just aren't home enough. It wouldn't be fair to the dog. I suggested a cat and she gave me a seriously angry look, lol.
