Hello everyone, I'm kinda new 'round here and I signed up for the volunteer editors program. This happened about three weeks ago, and since then my editor's status is still "Pending"... Is there something wrong with my profile? Or does it simply take this much time?
Thanks

At Lit, the relativity of time sometimes takes on proportions beyond Einstein's wildest dreams. Approval can take a few hours or three eons and an ice age.

Why not just dive in and start editing while you're waiting for the official confirmation? Nobody can prosecute you for excising split infinitives without a license. :)

Welcome to the club.

I know that the site prompts require you to jump through hoops to edit. The hoops are an illusion. Although not sure I don't think think I'm officially listed as an editor, although I could be wrong. Edit away!

But be very careful. Your best intentions may disappoint new writers. I expressed early on a requirement for potential editors to "pass a test" of sorts, but it was shot down for reasons that are logical given the volume of stories that pass through these hallowed halls and the number of potential writers.

In some cases the editor is reading the first effort of a tentative writer testing the waters. That writer may need encouragement and fostering to extract the ideas they are tentatively sharing.

This thread makes the hair on my neck stand up because an editor has such an impact on a writer. Of course you're wondering what special qualities I posses that makes me singularly capable.

I have resources and know when to ask for help.

I considered not posting this, but I will. Fire away, ya'll.

As a member coming from Italy with an Italian name, I suspect you will be welcomed with open arms on the Italian section of the board; to find it click here.

I, for one, and probably a number of other writers would be wary of having work edited by someone whose first language is not the one in which the story is written. Heaven knows, we have enough problems between the several versions of English used on here (US, UK, Canada, Australia, South Africa, and others).
