There's no "there" here though. Not with this word. Dunno what sort of people you work around, but...it's kind of a reach. I mean, I "get it," but...meh.

Lots of British people use the word "snigger." Americans usually use the word "snicker." Both are sort of interchangeable when describing the action and are used on either side of the pond. I prefer snicker personally but using snigger isn't setting off any alarms even though it's Crystal Pepsi clear what it visually/phonetically resembles...and wanting to avoid that resemblance if there are options to do so doesn't make your words lesser in meaning or purpose.

Now...if you did say something actually offensive whether by accident or design...and it wasn't offensive to you or for you in saying it, but it was to another person or other people nearby, it's not because that other person or people needed to feel offended. It would be so because that's what it is.

Most people should and do know the difference, but some don't and won't.

This illustrates my point. Niggle is a legitimate word that can be used in polite conversation. Its meaning has no offensive properties. But race mongers will use any excuse to oppress others to their own end. Which is of course to control people's thoughts and actions.

Race mongers use newspeak as a control mechanism. So like in this case, the true meaning of niggle is distorted to meet their social goals.
