I have found that on those really dark pics it helps to lighten them up a bit, and to increase the contrast, before shrinking them down. Maybe you will prefer this more. I took a stab at making the background transparent, but I am not that skilled yet.

I'm not offering any advice because several people helped me with my AV as that is something I don't know how to do. But, what I wanted to say was that it really made me feel so wonderful inside to see others offer their help to you.

That's all I really wantd to say. Please forgive the intrusion and enjoy your new AV.
