Well this was rather a surprise for me.
A while back I wrote a story and posted it here. It was a story about a woman who had survived cancer.
Since I wrote and posted it I have received more than a couple of letters from readers about it. Some have liked it and some have absolutely hated it. Tonight I received one that just made me sit here shaking my head.
The letter started out by explaining it was written by a cancer survivor, (Ovarian Cancer,) who's husband had left her. She went on to explain that her husbands stated reasons for leaving her were because of the scarring. He just couldn't deal with the scar and how it made her look. She explained that he had left her less than a week after she had left the hospital.
She told me how she had struggled with this for almost a year after he left, then she met another guy. One who just didn't seem to care that she had a scar or that she couldn't have children. They had been together for more than a year and he had proposed to her not once but twice during that time. She hadn't accepted though because of how her first husband had treated her and how she had felt about it.
Then she said she had read my story and it had made her think about her own feelings. (From what she said she had read the story soon after it had been posted.) She had sat down and talked with her S/O about it, about his feelings about her scarring. Several months ago they were married.
Last month they finally managed a Honeymoon, one to a beach resort in the islands. Evidently things worked out well during their trip.
She informed me in closing that she wanted to thank me for my story. It may not have been the only reason that she changed her mind about getting married but it was at least one of the reasons.
Attached to the letter were four pictures, all of her and all nudes. The first two were labeled as having been taken when she had arrived home from the hospital, and they looked it. (She looked droopy and tired. The wound was red and inflamed, but not too bad looking.) (Full body and close up of the wound.) The second two were labeled as having been taken on the Honeymoon. In these she is happy, smiling, tanned and fit. The wound is un-noticable in the full frontal shot and is hard to spot in the close up. {A pink line against her tan.})
The letter stopped me in my tracks. (As did the pictures, and yes she's a good looking woman, and no I'm not going to post them here.) It made me feel good about my story, I had touched someone with my work. In fact the feeling it gave me was incredible.
