I think this is strange, what do you think?

There is something very strange happening to one of my stories, actually it's the entire series (29 chapters in all) and it goes like this.

The story in question is 'The Dream Reaper,' and below is what is happening to it, or rather not happening to it!

Rating Votes Views

The Dream Reaper 1 4.63 8 4725
The Dream Reaper 2 4.83 6 3745
The Dream Reaper 3 4.86 7 3428
The Dream Reaper 4 5.00 4 3969
The Dream Reaper 5 4.00 8 5016
The Dream Reaper 6 5.00 5 4179
The Dream Reaper 7 5.00 4 3884
The Dream Reaper 8 5.00 3 2921
The Dream Reaper 9 4.80 5 4341
The Dream Reaper 10 4.60 5 3725 The Dream Reaper 11 4.60 5 3650
The Dream Reaper 12 4.75 4 5592
The Dream Reaper 13 4.60 5 3946
The Dream Reaper 14 5.00 3 3516
The Dream Reaper 15 4.67 3 3627
The Dream Reaper 16 4.60 5 3451

It goes on like this for every single Chapter, and not one of them went HOT. Now I may not be the best writer in the world, but I do know how to write an erotic story. If you were to check anyone of my other series you'd find at least three or four have gone HOT in each series. It's almost like the votes have not been counted on the 'Dream Reaper', because I refuse to believe that thousands of people viewed these stories and didn't give it a second thought at the end.

If You compare this series to 'Hell's Gate,' you'd find the first five being voted on like this:

Rating Votes Views

Hell's Gate 1 4.46 74 12368
Hell's Gate 2 4.46 37 7276
Hell's Gate 3 4.69 32 6650
Hell's Gate 4 4.41 27 5217
Hell's Gate 5 4.29 38 5384

Now for the reason I put it in this section and not the feed back section. I would like anyone one of you or as many as you like, to go and read the first in the dream Reaper series and then come back here and tell me what you would have voted had you read it when it first came out. I don't want you to vote, that's not what I'm after, I just want to get your opinion on this series. Is it well written, or is it too fanciful and not worth voting for.

Thanks Guys/Gals this should be interesting.

A guess:

With series it seems that if you read the first chapter in a series, and like it you will read ch. 2 and so on. But iif you miss the first chapter, you are not going to jump in to the middle of the story when you see mumber 2, 3, 4...in the new stories list.

And there is no more important exposure for your story than that page for a few days. Could it be that the first story was overseen, due to slipping quickly from the New stories page? According to reads, they are quite constant, so it seems like those who read it did come back for more?

Are those in Novels and Novellas, and what theme/style/kink are they about?

I'll go take a peek, but not tonight, I'm way too sleepy.

You'll find most of them under Erotic Couplings but at least six of them are under Group sex. I suppose they'd fit in the fantasy mold, as the imagination needs to be employed to understand what's going on. You're right about the first one needing to be read, but as you pointed out, they do seem to have read them all consistantly.

It seems very odd to me that not one of them went HOT, not that that's an important factor, it's just that it looks strange whenever I view the votes page. That section is like a baron area. lol

I read the first chapters of both stories. If I were to read more it would be Hell's Gate.

Dream Reaper for me fails to set sufficient tension to warrant further reading, the sex content is pretty tame.

Hell's Gate offers more by way of mystery, 'harder sex' and the first chapter finishes with a problem to be solved. Who is the 'beast', what does he want, how/why does he appear?

DR virtually lays out the story - I'm sure in the remaining chapters there is more to reveal - but you effectively explain why Abby is there in the first chapter which takes away the 'need' to discover more.

Just my opinion. What is suprising is that you clearly have a following with the number of stories posted, why your regular readers did not hook onto at least the first chapter of DR is a mystery.

Dont know if this helps.

Yes it helps, because that's the sort of analysis I was after. Still, it does seem strange that so many people have clearly followed the story and yet seemingly not bothered to cast a vote. Yet if you look at the few that did vote, they are all in the 4's and 5's range.

All of which tells me that, had a lot of the others voted I would've had several HOT stories in that series.

Carl

ps It's like the votes haven't been counted, and funnily enough I found the other week that I couldn't access anyone of them tales. I strongly suspect that my votes for that series have gone astray somewhere.

Carl,

Liar may be on to something about multi-chapter stories. One thing I noticed is the stories were posted during October, 2000. It's been my experience that once a story rolls off the "New" list, it won't pick up many more votes. I'd imagine that's particularly true for Erotic Couples which is the biggest category at Lit.

As for not getting the coveted H (hot) designation, the problem is none of them have gotten ten or more votes. I'd sympathize, except you've got way more of them than I've got stories. :)

If you believe in that series, you might ask Laurel to delete it, re-write as you see fit, then re-submit. With any luck, they should get more views, votes, and H's.

Rumple Foreskin

ps: I double-checked your posting dates. The first seventeen were posted on either the eighth or ninth of October. IMHO, submitting in a bunch like that hurts vote and view numbers due to both what Liar said and the New list syndrom I mentioned.

I was thinking the exact same thing Rumple, in fact after reading number one again yesterday, I realized they could do with a rewrite, I've learned a lot since doing those tales. As for needing ten votes before going 'H' that's my point, after thousands of people have viewed all 28 Chapters, not one has been voted more than nine times. Don't you find that strange?

Carl,

At the risk of being accused of ego-tripping because I'm quoting myself, I added the above ps to my original a few minutes ago. Check it out and let me know what you think.

I understand what you're saying here, but I can't help thinking that if a story is good enough, it will be read regardless of when or how it was posted. Having said that, the fact that I didn't make the first tale at all erotic might be what has let the rest down. It was mainly an introduction you see.

Carl

ps What I could try, is rewriting the first one, and resubmit it so that they look to see if there are any others.

That might work. The only problem is the other stories will still be buried deep within the electronic bowels of EC which will probably cut their views. However, they might still get enough to qualify for an H.
