Well crap! That came off quite wrong. I was not trying to say you weren't one of the good guys, I was giving the REALLY on the "one of the few" phrase. I've met a lot of good people on these forums.

As in real life I believe the "few" are the bad people. They just make the most noise so they seem like the majority. It's the same here.

Since I've gotten more active here, two things have happened:


2. Scores on my stories, some of them with a few hundred votes and scores that were stable for months, have begun dropping. I can only explain that by having pissed off some voting bloc.

Now, see? This is what has dissuaded me from putting stories back up on Lit. I know many authors here say not to worry about the score, write for yourself, yada yada, but I'll admit it has perturbed me in the past when something I've put a lot of time and effort in has received a bad score due to obvious 1-bombs. It's sad to know there are still many mental children on Lit.

I think it is an internet thing. Keyboard warriors feeling brave as they are rude to people in ways they only dream of doing in real life.

Concentrate on those who build you up or share your struggles. Ignore the bitter folks who tear you down to elevate themselves.

It is scary to put yourself out there for the abuse, and yes, you'll get it, but there are some really positive people here too.

Heck, even some of the more bitter folks are sporadically funny.

Yes. Internet bullies seem worse than the old school-yard ones.

I'm sure I'll submit to Lit again one day. I can ignore comments just fine, it's the 1-bombs for the sake of being an ass that bothers me.


On another note, though, being the Mod of the Story Ideas board has given me some nice ideas...now I just have to commit myself to writing.

I don't even pay any attention to ratings anymore. They are too unreliable. People don't like the subject so they flame the story. People don't like the outcome so they flame the story.

There are a lot of stories on here that I don't like but are still good stories because they are well written and draw me in. They get high ratings from me. Then there are stories that make no sense or are just poorly written... Bad score.

I don't read some of the categories because I don't like those kind of stories. I wish the LW haters would stay away.
