I think I hate America...

What was that first part? The part about whining and forcing beliefs on people? Police up your religious fanatics before you go pointing fingers at anyone bub.

As far as hating America because of Liberals, you're going to have a rough time of it for the next oh, 25 or so years. Send Bush a thank you note. ;)

Cap'n, We might be getting both sides, I'm a little doubtful about that, but let's go with that premise anyway. The problem is, from my point of view, that we are expected to take one rabid, extreme, side or the other. If we don't froth at the mouth while spouting one set of talking points or the other, we deemed are ignorant and uninformed. If we DO froth at the mouth while spouting one set of talking points or the other, we are labelled ignorant and uninformed. The bottom line is, that both sides have ideas worth pursuing, but neither side will give an inch, and that isn't what built this country.

Regardless of what the 2 parties would like to believe, we are NOT a monoculture. One size does NOT fit all. What works beautifully in one area would be an albatross in another.

It's like building houses. Down south they lay a concrete slab for a foundation, they don't have severe freezes followed by thawing, and the houses are solid and livable for decades. Further north, if they built houses that way, the effect of the freezing and thawing would have the houses crumbing around the ears of inhabitants in just a few years, and they'd have to be demolished or huge amounts of money spent to keep them standing. Should the folks down south be expected to assume the added expense of a block and footer foundation if it's not absolutely necessary? No, but neither should the Northerners be expected to cut back in the short term only to have to expend more revenue in the long term on a foundation that doesn't hold up to the conditions inherent to the area.

The politicians seem determined to have it all their way, or like kids on a playground, they will take their bat and ball and go home. As kids, we always managed to find another bat, and another ball, and the ones that went home in a pout were rarely missed.

You didn't read the entire post, did you?

Yeah, it shows.

What we are getting is enough bandwidth to realize these voices are eternal...

Machiavelli wrote about them.
Doestoevski.
Rand.

von Humboldt and Mao
Greeks and Christians

Forever and ever, Hallelujiah.

Freedom and control are the eternal struggle when we surrender our right to revenge to the "greater good." The problem with the greater good is its propensity to greatness...

Like LT, there's only one side, the winning side and anyone who might say something about the mascot is a damned dumbass Raiders fan, check them for batteries...

I hate to tell you this but my last job in construction came in January in below zero conditions laying rebar for a pour for the next warm day. It was so cold we could only work 20 minutes at a time. That's about the same time I realized my mentor was right and I really needed to get my ass back into a class room.

;) ;)

Adequate firepower causes roving bands to rove elsewhere.

I read the entire post, as well as those that followed. Whining about whining and the wringing of hands. My post was addressed to the original post.

Don't like the way things are, do something about it or move it on out.

I don't think whining is solely the property of liberals. There are times both groups make me want to pull my hair out.

Why did you choose to pick on only one aspect of his post?

And why, and more importantly WHEN did my, or Marshalt's right to whine and wring hands as concerned citizens of this country, become inappropriate? Would his post have been more appropriate had he left out his thoughts and criticisms of Liberals? or are we just not intelligent enough to know what the politically correct whine du jour is?

Marshalt, turn off the television, or at least the portion of it that is "news driven", and you'll be happier. You'll still find out what you need to know from your friends and neighbors and miss all the drivel - except that you won't miss it because it is, indeed, drivel.

Lavared is right

The truth of it is, I look around and I hate America. No wait, I love America. It's Americans I hate...
I believe it's the concept of Americans portrayed in media and entertainment that you hate. The real people of our country are far more varied, interesting, patriotic, inspiring, heroic, humble, and all-around better than the two-dimensional character sketches found in most media outlets.

Marshalt, it's a pretty kick-ass country, filled with some great people. Really.

Who stole our Mishka?

They replaced her with this Pollyanna person!

It is what I did-- I'm not happier, but I'm a lot less tense than before.

I'm not happy, cuz I know people are still watching the nonsense, and coming to all
sorts of conclusions about what the average American cares about.

I picked out the theme of his entire post, he's whining and bashing liberals, democrats, atheists, Americans.

Whining and ringing your hands isn't inappropriate, if you're twelve, it's the hypocrisy of whining about whining that is. It's hard to take someone seriously that goes on a whinefest about how whiny someone else is. There wasn't a constructive thought in the entire post, just "whine, cry, I hate everybody (especially liberals) and you're all going to listen to me cry about how much I can't stand that my party lost it's ass in the last election."

We get it, you want to live in a conservative utopia. So go find one and fucking move.

I don't mean to be so cliche, but look at the rest of the world and see what you like about other countries. Maybe you should not be so negative and instead focus on what is great about America and it's people.

I'm sorry, but if you want to have a serious discussion, you'll have to turn around.

But you can stay like that and we can have a silly discussion.

Not in America, there isn't.

Well, there is, but it's a pretty small group (like Libertarians, everybody hears about them but nobody really knows one). Those we typically think of as leftists wouldn't know a real socialist if one came up and kicked them in their collective balls.

But at least we're consistent on this side of the pond. Those we typically think of as rightists have clearly proven they aren't what they claim to be either.
