Great movie. I can't believe this director's come out of nowhere to craft such a slick flick. He cut two songs which I didn't mind, and stuck one in, which wasn't neccessary, but aside from that it was a smart, assured, excellent filming of the musical. I even liked Richard Gere.

Obviously influenced by the way Fosse filmed "Cabaret" (with the events in the Kit Kat Klub commenting on the events in Cliff's life, edited together brilliantly) the director smartly made a movie with not a single slow spot or uninteresting moment. Better than Moulin Rouge because it was better grounded, but echoing that film's visual flair, this is a film to own and watch again and again.

Plus it made us so horny that we quickly had hot sex. So it's got that going for it too.

And the weekend's not even over yet.
You're on a roll. Lucky bastard.

(Is Renee saucy?)

Oh, Wenchy... now we are talking.

As an outspoken hater of movie-musicals, this casting even bothers me. I love Renee and the chance to see her dance and generall move her sexy lips is worth a few bucks. Catherine Drives me bonkers, she is not attractive in any sense and lacks charisma or chops. Gere is mildly annoying but feels like a song-and-dance man.

Dixon, do you feel the movie would have been better with a stage cast or perhaps different screen actors?

That's one of the movies your wife brought home??? I'm dying to see that and I have to wait like the rest of the plebians.

You suck.

How was the singing?

You're not of this world are you Mouse? Katherine is a physical goddess.

She has been in my front yard and shes not attractive, sorry.

Are you saying she's not nearly as attractive in person? Because to be even half as attractive is still pretty fucking hot if you ask me.

Of course it's all realitive.

I dont find her attractive onscreen. Her face and personae are the definition of boring. Sure, none of her features are negative... but that alone does not make you attractive. She lacks any quirk or human feature that sets her apart. She is unflavored yogurt.

Jones is beautiful, so you're wrong about that. There. Guess I showed you.

NY Stage actors would have nailed the dancing and singing better, but movies are still about faces and screen presence, and Jones, Rene and Gere all have plenty of both. They all did a superb job. I doubt Jones and Gere could do six shows a week, two matinee, but stage and film are different, and, for the film, they were wonderfully cast, and did work beyond their "type".

I finally got to see this movie. It's great. sexy, saucy, sizzling..i'm out of "s" words. My toes were tapping the whole time!

If you enjoy muscials, you gotta see this movie!

I am surprised that people think it was better than Moulin Rouge! The cast wasn't nearly as good. The dancing wasn't as good. The choreography wasn't as good. There wasn't as much fire. The singing wasn't half as good.

Moulin Rouge! had a life to it that Chicago did not match.

Nevertheless, Chicago has two amazing scenes/songs: When we both reached for the gun and the Cell Block Tango.

Great songs.

I didn't say it was better than Moulin Rouge, I just said it was great. You're right though, both of those songs were great. I liked the ending number too.

I agree—saw it Saturday.

The memorable music and interwoven (and fast) storyline was done superbly. I have a new appreciation of Richard Gere as an well-versed artist. ;)

Hot performances by Renée Zellweger and Catherine Zeta-Jones.

They were delicious. :D

That Taye Diggs always does it for me too

P.S. He could've cut Gere's first number. There's not a version of Chicago on Earth that that number doesn't drag down to the depths.

P.P.S. It's amazing Reiley was able to do so much with Celophane.. that's a tough number to have actions with.

I gotta second this sentiment, Mouse. I wanted to jump her bones after the first 10 seconds on screen, and she only got better.

They did an amazing job with this. I can't wait to see it again, to see everything I missed. I wouldn't say it's better than Moulin Rouge...that was such a brilliant and unique film.

I have to agree with Spinaroonie on what they did with Cellophane, too. That number bored me to tears when I saw it on stage...and they really wove it into the story better, and found a new sense of drama in it, then it has in the show.

Also, that court room scene, and the tap dance...that was fantastic...again, new life into that scene...and brilliant cinematography throughout!
