My Mother is going in for quadruple bypass surgery tomorrow morning and I'm asking everyone to keep her in your thoughts. Please say a prayer, burn a candle - what ever your faith calls for, as she goes through this.

She was put in the hospital last week for what they first thought was a bad case of pneumonia in one of her lungs. Her blood pressure was a scary level high and she was running a fairly high fever. After some tests they found damage to her heart and said the pneumonia was caused from congestive heart failure. It was obvious to the Dr.s that she had a heart attack. They transferred her to another hospital with a special heart unit and ran a few more tests. At first they were sure she would need triple bypass surgery, after more tests yesterday they found allot more blockage than at first thought. 2 arteries are about 78% blocked, one is about 98% blocked and the other is about 56% blocked, so now they've decided she needs quadruple bypass surgery and have it scheduled for tomorrow morning at 10:00. I lost my Father less than 2 years ago and he was only 56 years old. My Mom is only 56 and the thought of losing her too has me scared to death right now!

Again, I ask that you please keep her in your thoughts tomorrow as she goes through this surgery.

Thanks everyone.

You are in my prayers Mystic. I lost my father to a stroke when he was 57 yrs old (I was 16 yrs old). My mother died 6 weeks ago, but at least I got to tell her goodbye. I hope everything works out for you and her. Good Luck!

I am so glad they caught the real problem.

Bypass is so routine now a days, but still something to worry about.

Thinking warm thoughts.

Expect the best.

By all means, as teach said, expect the best even though invasive thoracic surgery is never a good thing. Do what you can to relax - our best wishes go out to you and yours.

Remember, stay positive, and we are all thinking good thoughts....hugs april

MysticSwing,

My thoughts and prayers will be surrounding you and your mom. Please try to stay as calm as you can for your mom and make sure you keep telling her how much you love her and how brave she is with all of this.

In my heart, I know everything will be fine, MysticSwing. Please take care of yourself, too. You need to be strong for your mom now and strong in your mind.

A million hugs and best wishes to you both. Please let us all know how everything is because we will all be worried right along with you.

Both of you will be in prayers.

Richard

My prayers are for you for strength, your mother for health, and for her doctors, that they may be led to perform the surgery well and do everything they can to get your mother through this with flying colors.

You and your mom will be in my thoughts and prayers today. Take care of yourself; your mom will need your strength soon.

Thanks everyone...
I barely slept last night, all I could do was lay there and think... I'm so tired right now I just feel numb. (I'm one who tends to worry myself sick. )
I do know that bypass surgery has become much more routine over the years, but it still scares the hell out of me. It's major surgery and I guess with losing my Dad so recently it makes me worry even more.
Again, I want to thank you all ~ It made me feel so good seeing all your heart felt replys.

(((hugs)))

My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family. I hope for many healing blessings to be sent her way. :)

My thoughts.

My thoughts are with you and your mother.......I know
the feeling of a loved one having congestive heart failure;
my grandmother (my dad's mother) ended up getting it
after having an angioplasty in Sept. 2000 (originally she
was supposed to have an operation for a stomach aneurysm
supposedly caused by bypass surgery about 13 years before,
and in pre-op tests the drs found that three of her arteries
were blocked...they were only able to get 2 out of the 3
unblocked, and for some reason, she ended up with congestive
heart failure). And my grandmother is one of the healthiest
people I know.....it could be aging though....but still......she is
doing alright, and has her good and bad days......

May God bless and keep watch over your mother at this
trying time, and pray that she will get through the hard
journey........

I will add you, and your mother to my prayers...good luck, I hope she comes out of it as well as my father did his triple bypass.

My rational mind tells me everything will be just fine, but shortly after I tell myself this, the fear creeps back in. I think my fear comes mostly from losing my Dad a year and a half ago. I remember when we were first told he had cancer I kept telling myself "He'll be okay". But he died a few months later quite unexpectedly. (It wasn't even the cancer that took my Dads life. During treatment he was given a shunt for the chemo. They figure there might have been an air bubble from this shunt that set free several months later (called an embolism). My Dad was also diabetic and the chemo treatments would sometimes shoot his sugar levels over 600 making him shake so bad. That's what they feel set this embolism free.) It was the cure that killed him... Scary... And all these things run through my mind when it comes to my Mom too... My mind just races. Ya know? (And having OCD (Obsessive/compulsive disorder) myself makes it even harder! *sigh*)

The fear is natural, and most likely magnified due to the past experience you had with your father. I feel for you and understand what you are going through. When my father went in for his surgery, he was like 70 years old and had NEVER been sick in his life, of if he was he didn't let on! I just prayed that all would be ok and dealt with it the best that I could. It's all you can do, really. Once again, I want to wish you the best, and my prayers are with you and your mother

Thanks STP. My Mother is a VERY active person, and other than high BP she has always been what we thought very healthy. Two things Mom has going for her right now is that the Doctors say her heart looks like it's in pretty good shape except for a small section of thickening from the heart attack they believe she had. And the second thing is her age, she's only 56 years old.

I really do appreciate all of your wonderful thoughts and prayers... Thanks you again!

Hoping for the best

I just heard of your mothers heart surgery. In these trying times the greatest comfort is in your faith, family and friends.
Know that my faith and prayers are hers.
