I think I mentioned that I picked up the carbs for my bike last week. I put them in the bike and tried to start it. It ran like crap. WTF?
Well I couldn't work on it again until today. I changed out the plug and swapped the ignitors around then took a look at the carbs themselves again. The mechanic had stated that he had backed out the Pilot Screws two turns as recomended by the tech manuals.
Out of curiosity I checked the Pilot Screw on number one carb. I screwed it all the way in and found it had been backed out a total of one complete turn. Hmmmmm. I backed the screw out a total of two full revolutions then did the same thing for the others.
That got the bike to start but it was still running way too lean. (It would only idle with full choke. As soon as I pushed in the choke it died out.)
Okay now I was getting some where. I backed the screws out a half turn each and tried it again. Better but not quite. It's still backfiring a bit but at least it's idling without full choke.
I can see it's going to take a bit of playing around but at least now it's running and I know the problem. (Oh and at least today number three cylinder was firing.)
Now I also know I have to replace the ignitors. Hmmmm, I wonder how much those suckers are going to run me.
