Remember... Google is your friend :p

'Illegal Operation' or 'Invalid Page Fault' or 'General Protection Fault' error message
Any of these error messages can occur if Yahoo! Messenger has not installed properly on your system. Begin by uninstalling the Messenger:

1. Make sure to exit Yahoo! Messenger completely. If you don't the un-installation will fail.
2. Click on the Start button on the taskbar.
3. Select Settings and then Control Panel
4. Click on Add/Remove Programs
5. Scroll down and double-click Yahoo! Messenger
6. Follow the prompts until Messenger has been successfully un-installed.

Once the Messenger has been uninstalled, download a new version and save the file to your hard drive. Once the file has downloaded, close your browser and all other background applications. (Be sure to actually exit these programs rather than just minimizing them to the taskbar). Then try installing the Messenger again. This should resolve the problem.

If it does not, please do the following:

Windows 95/98

1. Shutdown and restart your computer.
2. Press CTRL + ALT + DEL on your keyboard. This will bring up the Close Programs window.
3. You will see a list of programs. These programs are currently running in the background on your system, whether they show on your taskbar or not. "Explorer" is the Windows 95 operating system. Systray is the taskbar manager. All other items on the list are programs which could be causing a conflict with the Messenger installation. To get around this, these programs can be temporarily closed while the Yahoo! Messenger is being installed. Once the Messenger is installed, restarting your computer will return these programs to their original configurations.
4. One at a time, click each item in the list to highlight it and then click the End Task button. When you click the End Task button, the Close Program window will close. You will need to press CTRL + ALT + DEL each time to bring it up again. If at any time you get a message that a program is Not Responding, click End Task.
5. On rare occasions, End-Tasking on a program can cause the system to reboot. If you experience this, you will need to start from the beginning and proceed without attempting to End Task that particular program.
6. Once you have the Close Programs window clear except for Explorer and Systray (or Explorer only, if you don't have Systray), click Cancel to close the Close Programs window.
7. Install Yahoo! Messenger again. You should not experience the same problem.
8. Once the Messenger is installed, restart your system. All of your background applications will return to their original configurations.
