Excuse me for posting something that has already been posted, but despite my understanding of how a search engine goes, I usually find it lacking in information. So here is what I have to say and ask:
First off, I'm familiar w/ labels and everything, but I personally would not be open-minded if I stuck to the labels and stereotypes of society.
For a long time now, I have always been against getting piercings. However, recently with my new haircut, I have come to look at myself in the mirror and see my right ear pierced (illusion, peoples) and the kind of earing in my earlobe is one of those small diamond earrings.
Lemme make sure this is understood, I do not, I repeat I do NOT have ear piercings. I am saying that after my new haircut, I have imagined one of those small diamond earrings that guys wear in my right ear.
So, I thought I'd look good with an ear piercing. However, remember the whole labels and stereotypes? Good, then you're still with me. I have heard lots of things and it has gotten confusing. So I need help interpretting all of this stuff.
MY understanding is this: (Also it's only for guys, not girls)
If you get your right ear pierced, you're gay.
If your left is pierced, you're straight.
If you get BOTH pierced, you're most likely bisexual, but straight.
So... people tell me if I want to get my ear pierced, get my left ear pierced, otherwise get both pierced. However, as I have been saying, I think I would look better with my right ear pierced and I do not go with the whole stereotype/label thing. On the other hand, it's a SOCIAL thing, therefore I must follow it.
Now, what am I asking? I am asking for help on the RIGHT social meanings of ear piercings as whether or not MY understanding is correct or not.
I also realize that looks can be deceiving from mirrors, but I also know that if I really don't look as good as I THINK I would, then I can always remove the earring and the hole will heal up.
Thanks in advance for any help given!
