I'm working on a Power Macintosh 7100/66 av i just installed a new os and it was working fine a week ago and now when i turn it on all that happens is:

The two cooling fans come on and the green power light comes on and thats it the screen does no come on no beeping

I do here the hard drive i can feel it doing somethin when i put my hand on it.

Anybdy hve an idea what could be wrong.

Thank you for any help.

Not claiming to be an"expert" ny any stretch but is it possibly your monitor and NOT the hard drive or the system upgrade?? Check the cables to the monitor- it could be as simple as that. Good luck.

Dead PRAM battery. Try turning it on and off then back on 3 times in a row. See what happens.

Nothing what would the battery look like.

Well i found the battery and it's a 3.6 volts checked it on my meter and it was just under 2 volts.

I yhink i'll go get another battery.

You can always reset the PRAM by starting up the computer and pressing command-option-p-r all at the same time... the comptuer will boot up but keep holding the keys until you hear the chimes 3 times... also... if possible connect another monitor... changing the battery won't help much if the monitor is dead

The holding down until you hear 3 chimes is a myth. You only need to get one extra chime. Believe me, I used to work in Apple's tech support group. The no video but all other normal signs of life is a common problem on older machines.

BTW - Did the flipping it off and on several times work?

Tried it still nothing tried another monitor and still nothing.

Everything worked fine around a week ago i even played a game no problems but now there is no chimes like before.

Everything is n a surge protector plug.

Try the new battery. You may have to reset the PRAM after installing it. Still sounds to me like a bad PRAM battery.

Yea but nothing i looked at the numbers on the battery and i think it was made in 95.

But it was not used all that much i even think it may have set unplugged for a few years.

I'll try a new battery it won't hurt.

Also forgot when i set it up the first time a popup came up saying the clock was not right or something like that there was a promblem.

Had an error before i put new os on it in the master block but it was fine after the new the error sign did not come up.

That time and date error is a big indicator that the PRAM battery is dead. The PRAm holds, among other things, date and time and video settings.
It being unplugged that long is very hard on the battery. During that entire time, that little battery was trying to maintain your settings.
You should be able to get one at a battery store or possibly even Radio Shack. Take it with you.

Look at this Apple tech link:

Your battery is a 3.6volt lithium battery

Simple solution--

Call- 1-800- my apple

Have the Id number found on the back of the box or CD
talk to tech support,,
As you just bought or got the new OS system

Many problems,,,seem to rise when,,,how your computer is set up
how much memory you have,,Ram,,,HD,,,,and soo forethe
when downloading a new OS..

1-800-MY-APPLE is the sales number
1-800-APL-CARE is the tech support line.

Not all new operating systems get 90 days complimentary tech support. I believe only OS X does. I assumed he was not installing OS X because it is not supported on his machine.

How old is the mac and which OS did you install?
The Mac before the one I have now, I couldn't install OS 8. It just wasn't compatible. Sorry to say, the computer itself might be too old for the new OS.

They transferred you to the support line. I was pointing out the proper support # for those that might call.
