Over the past couple of years I have watched:
Damages - highly recommended if you haven't seen it
Breaking Bad - incredible
Dexter - great the first few seasons then tailed off for me
House of Cards
and Mad Men

I've been slowly working through West Wing.
Last year I watched Weeds, and it's quite good.
For comedy Raising Hope is a riot. Gilmore Girls just hit, and that's a wonderfully done show.

Firefly- it's an internet, sci-fi, nerd, cult classic created by Joss Whedon.

Farscape- Can be kind of campy, but they manage to get raw. And, there's muppets! Funscape delivers!
