She is probably 30 or so years older than I am.

I met her when I began teaching. She was a special-ed teacher.

It only took a moment of conversation for me to understand that this was not just a quality woman, but a human being that packed a punch. And she did.

What a woman! Anyone could look at her and see she was beautiful (drop-dead gorgeous as a young one).

She fought a battle with breast cancer. She felt great pain. She never told many people- there was something stoic about her. Stoic, but heroic.

And she didn't put up with bullshit. It was hilarious. When someone retires it is the custom for everyone to honor them with a party.

She didn't do that. She felt no need to act the fool at the party for a person who never meant a thing to her or did any thing for her. When she retired, she told her boss (my boss) that she didn't want any of that.

I admire the hell out of that.

She even forgave me for being so near to her last year and not going to see her in favor of shacking up with a friend.

I told her about it. She still wants me to come and see her.

At 65 she took a class in welding just to see if she could do it.

People need to believe in something. God is an idea. This woman beleived in herself.

(for what it is worth)
