My brothers used to call me "tulp" which is tulip in Dutch. I'll refrain from mentioning their nicknames, you never know. LOL
Most people shorten my name to BT and I like that. It was even better to hear them say it to me in person.

Funny thing is, my real name is a double one and that gets shortened to my initials as well.

Guess I'm a lettered person.

They're nice. I like the variety I get on here - Shang and Shango and horsie and horsey. They make me smile.

Odd, isn't it, what a personal thing a name is. It's strange that some of the most nasty insults and some of the most affectionate endearments involve giving someone a different name.

Anyone else have one that's a particular favorite?

I don't have a nickname but from P, (Charlus) bless her sexy soul. (OK fine - Abs, Cloudy and Lou have called me unmentionable names and endearing ones ) Its cool, welcoming and loving.

Not so odd Shang - words mean and one word, like a nickname, is more personal and intimate than even your name in RL. After all, we are all in a work world now, and no one endears us (nor do we endear or adore others usually) with a nickname. Have we lost our fun and joie de vivre, aside from online?

If you pronounce Perdita as in Spanish (Pear-DEE-ta), then Dita is a fitting nick.

However, I chose the name after a fave Shakespeare character so I say it PURR-ditta.

The Earl calls me Pear, don't know why but I like it a lot.

Gauche calls me lots of stuff but less and far between time zones.

Svenskamou (or Svenskayaya) and I Russianize our names with 'diminutive' (as in endearing) endings.

I do not like being called Perd or Perdy, etc.; they are in reality ignorant ways of abbreviating Perdita however one pronounces it. (I think only those on 'ignore' do it so I'm Ok .

well I prefer nymph or nymphy to being called woody I always think of the woodpecker.
In Real Life I have one that goes back to childhood, and hate being called that by most anyone but family and friends who have known me that long. It's Nana , not the grandma nana, but a short form of my name that when I was born my older brother could not pronounce, my parents and younger sisters called me that also so it stuck. I used to hate when they would bring home teenage friends and introduce me. Kelly this is Nana. My reponse has always been , Yep now call me that in public and die.
The SO calls me JoJo, a weird combination of my name and him likeing the Character MoJo JoJo from the damn power puff girls, some days I like it
