......I want to learn dhtml and xml. Eventually, also, java, cgi and perl. Anyone got any links that might help or book recommendations? Thanks in advance.

I "learned" HTML from HTML for Dummies. It's a goodreference book for the differences in syntax from other programming languages. If you know how to program, then the differences in syntax are really all that you need to learn.
