I am so confused. I thought my grammar/spelling was pretty damn decent. LadyC makes sure of that. Who the heck said I can't spell? Why do I think this sounds like a mass advertisement for editors? What's going on??

Jen, I've read a few of your stories and they have been impeccable in their spelling and grammar. And well written, I might add.

Heck, you're posts are better spelt and grammered than mine.

I also know that between you and LadyC, it is unlikely that anything got missed ... and if it did, well it happens.

I read it like spam ... some knucklehead posted it. Delete it. And if they post it again, we'll track them down and punctuate them.

Heeh Thank you for your answer. I am more confused than angry because I am secure enough in my spelling ability still, I just found it odd, so I figured I'd ask if there's some Jen can't spell movement going on that I didn't know about.

I wouldn't give a crap's ass to it if I were you. I'm secure enough and like you too much to not tell you if your spelling and grammar were shitty.

Delete that feedback, take a hot bath with lots of scented oil, light some candle, get a glass of wine and frolick in aforementioned bath without a second though to the I-D-I-O-T-S who complain about your story.

The error most egregious - is in paragraph 1: pityful for pitiful.

paragraph 19 - weldet for welded
paragraph 22 - scatching for scratching

edited as scep... is variant.

paragraph 72 - sniding for snide

Very well.. I shall remove it... I did not scan for variants or U.K. English -- I simply copied into Word and scanned for red. Only one of my three paper dictionaries has the sc version.

Do you (or anyone else for that matter) happen to know how I can get my German MSWord to perform a US English spellcheck for me? Obviously, all those things would never have been missed in the first place if I was able to do that, and so far, I haven't been able to figure out how it works. Is it possible to download a file with dictionaries in other languages? I don't seem to have any.

Click on Tools, then Set Language ... it should give you a number of different options for language, including "English (US)".

I find the language settings a bit of a bother .. not sure if it is because if someone sends you a document set with a different language it overrides my preference or what ... but half the time, I end up with French Canadian spelling being offered. Damn bilingualism ...

I'm sure that Microsoft has lots of dictionaries that you can dowload ... where did you get your computer/software originally ... US or Germany? Could just be that you're on a default because it was purchased in Germany.

Believe it or not, the word "the" gives me as much trouble as any word in the English language. When you type as much as I do, both at work and here for fun, the mind-finger connection just breezes through those letters, because it's such a common, easy word, and I'm often going so fast that the fingers hit the keys in different order, producing hte or teh. Interestingly, it's never eth or eht. I guess I should confess that I am a self-taught typist who never uses more than the first two fingers of each hand, plus the thumbs for the space bar, so maybe that has something to do with it.

Good point, but this is something you should catch while reading over what you just wrote and correct it right away. I type fast, and when I write a sentence, there are usually two or more typos in it, depending on the length of the sentence. I am aware they are there, however, and will correct them promptly. Submitting a review with such a glaring error is another thing entirely.
