jesus fucking christ. that site is deader than donald's dick. getting rid of the personals must have diminished their traffic by about 90%, even the free shit is shit. i got a lot of good ass off of that site way back when.

Whereas the actual sale ads were only about 50% scammers and/or bots.

Basically, Craigslist was dead long before it even realized it was dead.

Yep. The Craigslist killer....happened to be where I was from.

Never ever used Craigslist for anything. It was kind of a dangerous, seedy site but the ads were hilarious to read.

my favorites were the 'missed connections" locally there were always ads like 'i was driving south and you were driving north on the freeway at rush hour today. i was in a blue car. you glanced my way. was there some spark between us?'

Craigs list seemed to be the frequent inspiration for pictures and videos of transvestites being tied up and abused by someone they had met on Craigs list.

That reminded me of a weekly publication I used to scan avidly in the 1960s - Exchange and Mart. It still exists but only online for car sales. In the 1960s you could buy almost anything in Exchange and Mart. One of my best buys was two pairs of ex-army commando boots, UK size 13 (US = 14) for seven shillings and sixpence plus half a crown postage = ten shillings (or 50 pence now). I used them for thirty years.

My worst buy? A Russian pocket watch for five shillings. It had a thirty-day guarantee. It stopped working at 45 days. I took it to a watch repairer. He opened it and started laughing. The internal gears were made out of recycled baked bean cans They even said 'Heinz' in Russian.

The personals claimed to be local, and some did a pretty decent job of pretending to be, but most were, in fact, Russian/Nigerian/Eastern European bots and/or scammers.
